Oils are my new favourite paint!

Oils are enjoyable for me to use recently. Mostly I am messing around with slapping paint on and seeing if an image appears. I think all this bravado with the brush/knife marks will transfer to my realistic painting when I get around to doing that again... kind of loosening it up. On the other hand, I may just like all this abstract work so much I may never go back to 'realism'. I laugh out loud and smile and generally enjoy the abstract-whimsy style so much when I am in the midst of it. For rea… Continue

Trying the marshmallow cookie

Yesterday I was working on the sleepy lizard and decided to try marshmallow thinking. I thought of floating marshmallows on hot chocolate. So I did a small watercolour of the lizard (my chocolate) and floated my OP on top (marshmallows). First time I've used OP over waterco… Continue

Got the OPs out today

Today, I got my boxes of oil pastels out...for a change. I like OPs as they give me license to do 'mad' things with colour. Very free-ing medium for me. I did this portrait of a lizard as part of a project on another forum. Its called 'Lizard dreaming of being a chameleon'… Continue

faces project

The four faces project gave me the push to try a series of self-portraits. I did my first one of me and my dog in watercolors. It was fun to use watercolours for a portrait. Not sure if I will continue with watercolours for all my self portraits...I might...or I may try various different mediums for the different portraits. I am rather intrigued by Frida Kahlo's self-portaits and I've ordered a book on her work from the library. Maybe I'll do a self portrait with monkeys or lemurs. I have a ph… Continue

June thanks for the comment, I am actually a counselor, I was doing life coaching for several years and wasn't able to be as creative as I wanted to be, but now I can integrate creativity more with clients young and old. I work with victims of abuse and assault so most of the work involves trauma.

June,

May I comment on what a wonderful artist you are! I sat looking at your photo collection of some of your work and it was so beautiful. I am especially attracted to your paintings. Each one has made me feel something powerful in one way or another. There is some amazing energy in your work!

Hi, I am Back. I hope to upgrade my internet connection soon though. I am on dial-up at the moment and feeling the restrictions.

Hi Susan, I haven't been to the painting group yet. Did you sort the problem with the salt?

Usually, a light brush will take off most of the salt when the paint is dry!

i think you are away so don't think you will receive it. I tried the salt on the water color and all that happened was that most of the salt got stuck on the paper and didn't fall off. What did I do wrong?
Lots of love from Susan in Australia
