Julesie, I just looked at your stick men doodles, and I'm smitten!
(I even agree that we could do a stickmen swap, and I don't have time to do a swap.-LOL So, you know I'm in love with your ideas yet again..)
More, please...

Hi Jules, I've only just seen your comment you left about my book on June 26th! (I thought that this site drops you emails when something happens but nothing did!). Anyway apolgies for taking so long but here is the answer! Yes all the sculptures as well as the photos are all my own work, except for a single photo of an Andy Goldsworthy sculpture that is up on the hills near here. That sculpture has a special meaning for me as the discovery of it set me off on the whole land art thing. Blurb has added a full book preview so you can see every page now if you are interested. http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/742798

Kind regards
Richard

Jules-Baby, You know that NOTHING is sweeter than chocolate! :-)
I've been pulled away from my easel by unknown forces of responsibility, placing a litter of five kittens, traveling, family, friends, etc.
I want to paint again. Period. That is what I planned to do this summer. I just didn't think I would have to "fight for the time" like I do during the school year. Sheesh...
Feel free to encourage me in that direction...I wonder if we could do an easel challenge for painters like we do for ATCs & 30 Days? Hmmmm...something to think about. Maybe for early August? What do you think?

Hello Jules,
I am impressed with your painting! good stuff:-)

As to me, I am an amateur writer... and love early XXth century painting so much!
About Chagall I love the dreaming quality of his work, his floating characters are so poetical and expressive. I feel they tap into a wellspring of unconscious and cross-cultural emotions... but maybe you know more than I do!?

Talk to you soon,

Francesca

Is there a thread for first time ATC swappers? I might be interested!

I had a look at your cards. They are awesome, Jules! It's amazing what materialize when we sit down to do a card or two. Great job!

I think it is awesome that you have friends that are interested in meeting and doing SoulCollage. The book is great! This is how I learned. I also learned a lot from visiting Anne Marie Bennett's site: www.kaleidosoul.com. We will soon have a section for those who are interested in learning SoulCollage at my SoulCollagers Circle.

Hello Jules, thank you for your warm welcome! I would love to see your SoulCollage cards! Sometimes we know instantly what our cards mean but sometimes, as you said, it takes a while. It's about trusting the process for me.

I haven't done ATC but I'm intrigued by them. I know someone in town who does them and I want to ask her to introduce me to them and I could introduce SoulCollage to her. Then it might be an awesome idea to join in a swap!

You make a very convincing argument for display space being a work of art in itself Jules and have given me a lot of food for thought. For most of your quotes, I mainly nodded and smiled, but then when I got to Tracy Emin's quote that just hit the spot.

I've never considered myself an artist, and for that matter I've never really considered Tracy Emin much of an artist either, but then when I saw this quote I realised that perhaps I had not given myself (or her) enough credit.

Essentially. I love the visual space that we inhabit, the sight of it, the smell of it the feel of it, and in making an installation like my REAL wall I am expressing how much I adore the REAL world we live in. Although I can't paint it or draw it or do any of those things I was told I needed to do in art class at school I can arrange stuff, photograph and draw/stick stuff on these little postcard canvasses and on my REAL wall, and when I do, I pour all my heart and soul into the task.

What pops out the other side is not what my art teacher at school would call art but it's a means of expression that I am proud of that I feel has represented the world I so love from the point of view that I see it and hence it must be art by one of those definitions you gave me.

I suppose it's a sad state of affairs that my art teachers at school have led me to have such shallow belief in myself as an artist, and as a teacher I find it sad that teachers can indeed have such a negative impact on the development of a child's self-esteem and love of a subject. It's taken me more than 10 years of not being at school to get used to the idea of actually even liking art let alone considering myself to be an artist and so I thank you and all my contributors on my REAL wall for giving me art and reaffirming that belief.

Would love to see some of your art on there Jules. Why not send me something at

my REAL wall
73b Goldhawk Road
London
W12 8EG
UK

and show me what REAL art looks like! :-)

Andy
