From Abstract Drawings / Bocetos Abstractos

Just found six coloured concept drawings I did one after the other in the Jan-Feb period when I thought I wasn't making any art at all...

I'm promising myself one of these days to do an exhib of just these sort of abstracts on black backgrounds...It will have to wait for a bit though as I have another project on the boil at the mo...

The line between work and play in art is almost invisible these days...in fact I would say it exists only in the mind...but that has only come about by self-acceptance and continually reminding myself that if it feels good it is good...BUT there were some moments in the Handless Maiden when I really had to force myself to continue but that was mainly at the beginning. It got easier as I went on and by the end of the series I felt I had begun to really find my self-confidence...And then all the positive feedback I got about the series - both here on CCS and in the local community where I live - made me feel, somehow, that now I have a license to make any art I want...Why I didn't feel like that before? Complex! But now a new, free, experimental phase with no preconceptions. Feels Good!

Oh, Wild Cherry, I forgot to note, that these abstract drawings look like creative play and that sure is less confining than work!!! LOL! After seeing your collage paintings for the RED Shoes series, I know that there was plenty of work in them...but I also saw playfulness in lots of them...even in the emotionally darker ones! They were just too stunning and filled with complex imagery to be all work and no play...Just a thought...semantics in art...between work and play?

Julia, I cannot live without black paper but its strangely difficult to come by in these parts! I just bought a new pad when I was away at Xmas :-)

I do love Kandinsky. One day I'll get to see some of his work in the flesh so to speak...
