Julia Cameron talks in The Artist's Way about U-turns or times in our lives when we buck at a difficult fence and instead of picking ourselves up and trying again, we stay lying down on the grass feigning incapacity to continue.

Like most people I have had my share of those times and lately I have come to recognise some unfinished art-works from the past as symbols of the U-turn syndrome. Happily I've been able to incorporate some of the ideas and imagery from a couple of these into my latest piece of work, thereby putting head-stones on a few more of those unmarked graves and planting some little seedlings in the fertile earth there which will hopefully spawn lots of new growth in the future ;-)

In this case, Barb, its definitely true - you need to see it because there is so much texture that doesn't show up in the photos. Yes, I think I'm finally learning to be a constant gardener ;-) and this year has been a real turning point for me so can't wait for 2009!

Susan, the concept of u-turns is a very interesting one...and turning a u on its head you get n for new :-)

Mary, I do feel a sense of accomplishment. Its really great to finish the year on a positive note and to feel I have finally beaten the fear into submission!

Thanks for sharing the latest, Wild Cherry. I really like it and once again, I needed to see it :) I know you will carefully nurture those seedling and it's great to hear you've put some of those older unfinished ones to rest.
