This week's STUDIO FRIDAY topic is: LEGACY.

"What works, successes, accomplishments would you love to leave behind for the world? What legacy would you like to or are you about to create?"

Oh boy! This is a tall order. I'm not going to think of the world because that's mind boggling so I will shrink my world to that of family. If I had grandchildren, (Please God let me have grandchildren one day) I would want them to remember their "Arty Granny". The one that allowed them to make a big mess with paints and create whimsical creatures with papier mache. The granny who was great fun to be with. I would also want them to remember that no matter what they might be going through, whether it be depression, loneliness, grief or anything that stops them from being happy....I would want them to remember that if they find something creative to do, something that absorbs their attention enough to blot out all their woes, they will begin to feel better.

I have proven that if you can shift yourself into that timeless zone, whether by creating art, making a garden, writing a poem or cooking a special meal, you will be swept away to a healing place. Each time you go there you heal a little more and a little more. Your art becomes your sanctuary. That is what I would like to leave my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The knowledge that art heals.

Robyn thanks for sharing this, I love what you say here:

"I have proven that if you can shift yourself into that timeless zone, whether by creating art, making a garden, writing a poem or cooking a special meal, you will be swept away to a healing place. Each time you go there you heal a little more and a little more. Your art becomes your sanctuary."

As we create, we leave a mark on the world in two ways - through the actual art we create, and through the way we create, our approach and philosophy to life. For me, I think the latter is even more important than the art itself...
