TIM HAWKINSON

This work by Tim Hawkinson is called Sweet Tweet. Not all of his works are as innocent and as whimsical as this piece however. A small "Bird" looks fascinating until you realize it is made from finger nail pairings. Eeww! Very clever though. To see more go to http://www… Continue

STUDIO FRIDAY : THE VIEW

This week's Studio Friday topic is:- The view : "Everyone looks out their window and sees a different view....palm trees, snow, beaches, mountains, gardens, animals. Share the vantage from your studio.....what's outside your window that takes you away and lets you daydream or get inspired." - Espialdesign

It's easy to daydream when looking out of my studio window. Though we live in a built up area the surrounding hillside and forests are wild. Early every morn

Poetry in Paint

The whimsical paintings of Diane Culhane feed my spirits. See http://www.dianeculhaneart.com/

"I want each painting to ask something, and at its best moments I want the question to remain unanswered. It is the place between speech and silence that the viewer brings knowledge, experience an

Up with the birds.

The birds were chirping at 3.a.m. this morning so thinking it was 5.a.m. I got up to start work on an order. Of course once I had a few sips of coffee I realized my mistake. Too late. I was up.

It's incredible just how much work you can get done in a fe

Goddess of Secrets

This is the third totem in my "Secrets" series. Once again I am using African symbolism.

The bird I have carved is a night bird which signifies the dangerous nocturnal powers of a woman.

Above the bird are 5 little leather parcels containing seeds, charms, muti, written symbols and magic. They are valuable to a person who is holding s

Bottled Belly Laughs

I was reading Judy Wise's beautifully illustrated blog this morning and she mentioned that she had been bottling tomatoes. She went on to say how wonderful it would be to bottle and preserve other things that we don't normally bottle, like a perfect Cecile Brunner rosebud.

That got me thinking! I would like to preserve the scent of newly mown
