Gretchen Heartaday's Blog (19)

And the winner is....art!

So for the last eighteen months or so I've been mostly sidetracked away from doing art, first when I thought I needed to be a massage therapist and then when I needed to be a Giant Squid on Squidoo followed by learning how to build a website the Site Build It way. Yesterday I had a long meeting with a great creative business coach (who provides her services free here in my small town because some people here were brilliant enough to create an economic development office to help businesses devel… Continue

The Power of an Art Blog

I've had two health related companies find the image below on my heArt-a-Day blog and want to license it since January 2009, even though the original blog entry was in 2007. The second contact has turned into a lucrative commissioned job. My message here is, you just never know until you put it out there.

This is how t… Continue

Make a Paper Ornament: The Porcupine Ball

The tradition at Christmas on my mom's side of the family was to carefully save all the foil wrapping paper after unwrapping presents in order to make these spectacular tree ornaments from them. I've made a Squidoo lens with instructions on how to make them (although I admit, writing directions isn't… Continue

How I've Showcased My Creative Interests on Squidoo (and made a little cash too)

Lin ran across one of my squidoo lenses and suggested I post about them here. If you just want to go see them, I have a list of them on my "Lensography". If you want to know all the hows, whys and whats of Squidoo and a mini lesson in internet marketing - keep reading. Squidoo is a unique sort of free webpage hosting service where people can write pages about anything they are interested in. There are templates all set up with various s… Continue

"Wheels of Love" Audio Meditation

Soul Love: Making Wheels of Love

The basic premise of this meditation is sending unconditional love out to all the groups you belong to...the "wheels". It goes beyond trying to "fix" anyone or anything. It's more about raising your consciousness and attracting people and things into your life that are on the same level. It's free and about half an hour in length.

I'm a huge fan of the people who do this website. It's not… Continue

Mystical Santa Collage

I did this for the weekly Creativity Challenge over at the Jack and Cat Curio blog. He finds some amazing clip art for collage and gives it away! Also used some photoshop brushes from Obsidian Dawn (as I often do).

This is my little pagan tri… Continue

Vote for Erzulie Freda Veve by Voodoomama

My real life artist friend Denise Alvarado, also known as Voodoomama, is in an art contest on a site called Brickfish, hoping to win money for a school scholarship. She is finishing up her Ph.D. in Psychology with her field of study being specific to helping native americans. She has developed a psychology "instrument" for determining wellness among native americans, something that hasn't been done before. The usual psychological tests try to measure overall wellness based on anglo culture. She… Continue

I got the Today's Best Award on Zazzle!

I've been working my butt off all afternoon getting images up on t-shirts on Zazzle (after I told the Intuitive Arts group I wasn't going to be on the computer all day today ... ha!). Well, I guess it was worth it. I just got notified one of my products was picked for the Today's Best award, which means I get on the "awards showcase" page for the "rest of today" (whatever that means). Wooo hoooo!!!

See it here: AwardContinue

My First Rubber Stamp Design

The other day I got "scouted" through my heArt-a-Day blog by someone connected to a rubber stamp company called Hearts in Touch!. In 24 hours a ten year long dream of mine came true - I became a paid rubber stamp designer. :)

This is my design. I drew it in Photoshop (of course), but to show it off here I made a brush of it to make the background texture, put a layer style on it to make it look lik… Continue

"Cat Nap" Digital Drawing

I try to do a drawing a day for my boyfriend. That's how my heArt-a-Day blog got started. In the beginning I did one just for him and then did another one for the blog, but lately I've been using some for both. This one is one of the better straight drawings I've done lately, so I decided today to make it public. As usual, done entirely in Photoshop. I really like the faux woodblock print or scratchboard effect I ended up with.

Been Shopping and Digital vs. "Analog" Artmaking

Oooo...I went out yesterday and visited two of the local scrapbooking stores. I'm not a scrapbooker but I keep getting edged more and more in that direction. I was interested in rubber stamps (the arty kind) for a few years but they're really losing store space to the scrapbooking stuff. Found a GREAT digital scrapbook methods book for making your own digital scrapbook elements. That's what I'm really interested in as far as digital scrapbooking goes - making my own stuff, being a designer more… Continue

My Last Minute Halloween Heart Art

Last week I had plans to do a lot of Halloween art. Well, here it is late afternoon on All Hallow's Eve and I just finished my second piece (the first being my daily "art du jour" for my boyfriend, which I like to keep private). It's all "painted" in Photoshop CS2 with my Wacom Graphire4.

Below is a sample of it, but click this link, Halloween Heart, to go to my heArt-a-Day blog and see the whole thing. Yu… Continue
