Hi three Melissac!
Im a bit nervous too but TOO excited to think about being nervous about the projects!
I have started (making dry runs so to speak) and trying leafing on some rocks that I picked up when we went to the beach this weekend in Monterey CA!!
all the rocks that Im working on will be pendants! YIPPEEE!! Im not really sure how they are going to evolve but its a process and helps us focus on the senses that so many take for granted!
Happy to meet you!
((hugs))

So glad to have met you, too!
What unit or book are you working on with your students at the moment?
Wait, I'm cluttering up your comments column!
Sorry, I'll email you off site in a moment.

That's really too bad. Is she a young teacher that needs guidance in that area?

Yes, illustrating literary works has been proven to help some young readers to make connections to content, and it helps them visualize as they read, which many kids don't know how to do.
I just did a mini-seminar for some of my teachers on this, can you tell? lol!
Re the "class swap", I offer to physically go to the room of the teacher to do an art project with kids that relate to their present unit, while the teacher goes to my room and views what my art students are working on....it seems to work out nicely.
Is your art teacher one that you could approach with these ideas?

I marked a set of test papers before Ieft school, but I still need to "do the math" and give them grades, so I lugged them home. It was a beginning level Art I class, mostly ninth graders, so it's like dealing with kindergarteners of an elementary school. Sheesh!
As for working with your art teacher, there are lots of things she can do that wouldn't take a lot of valuable planning time...Like...borrowing reproductions to use as a writing prompt, illustrating literary works you read in your class, and doing what I call "Class Swaps"...?

I'm a high school art teacher, with 15 years experience in elementary. (I always get along great with LA teachers. :-) Guess its the creative aspect we all have in common....) Yes, testing is evil. LOL. How can we "pigeonhole" EVERY child into a few catergories???? I better stop before I get on my soapbox! :-)
Any papers to grade this weekend?
Sixth grade is a different level than any other, isn't it?
