so this is christmas . . .

the excitement is mounting as we move towards christmas... i am a bit of a big kid really... I try to keep it inside and tell myself "act your age..." but really i love all the preparation and the stress it brings, the putting up of the christmas tree, the mulled wine, the christmas carols, the fircones dusted with sparkle or even just plain fircones and of course the wrapping of presents!!!

Last night i went to the next village along from where i live for the annual street festival... it was a… Continue

tiresome - but gorgeous

i woke early this morning with a strange noise pervading my dreams.... tap tap, drip drip, knock knock, thwat thwat..... what WAS that?

i sat up in bed and concentrated my hearing and found that the noise was coming from the corner of my bedroom, behind my bedside table..... but there was nothing there....

sleepily and not quite with it... i opened the curtain, surely it must be raining or something? but no.....

outside the garden was ALIVE with 30 or more blue tits all busily collecting seed… Continue

brother to sister moon

"and there he lay, naked and beautiful, feigning sleep, perfect in his stillness, peaceful in his pose, unaware of observation but missing nothing. his youthful skin pale and smooth, the curves of his body enticing and warm… here the master of desire, the keeper of keys. as i moved, slow… Continue

Land Art - Richard.... i am catching up with you.....ha ha!

Hey everyone... inspired by Richard Shilling i was at the beach with a friend today and felt the urge to have another go at some landart.... the wind was incredibly strong and it was a struggle to get the stones to remain upright - wobbling all the way through as they did.

But we took photos throughout (and a little video, may post another day) and luckily i got right to the last level and shouted "quick take a picture"! Barely had the photo been taken and the stack toppled.... but i was deligh… Continue

Hi Jane, apologies for the delay in replying, been ill in bed for a week.

But hey, I think it's pretty good actually as I know how hard they are to make and it has taken me quite a while to get to where I am. Anyway you had fun and have a thirst for more. What else could you need!

Well, you may be very sorry you asked me about thorns! I could write a very long and boring dissertation about thorns.

Yes hawthorns are the ones but they are not all the same. I am not surprised you really struggled with brambles thorns, they aren't anyway near strong enough. Hawthorns come in several varieties: dead ones which are brittle, new ones that are too bendy and thin and thick usuable ones. You can use the others too but not for piercing wood, the dead and soft ones are fine for stitching leaves for instance. The stronger ones are suitable for piercing wood as I say, but still many will break and snap and you are bound to stab yourself a lot too! It's important to get wood that is soft enough too and thinner thorns are better for pinning things into circles as they split the wood less. You'll need to get to know the thorns, and different trees too as they can vary from tree to tree and then experiment and practice. But then that is what land art is all about! By setting yourself the challenge of making something you get the opportunity to learn all about thorns. And then you'll start noticing where they all are and how they can be very different and which ones are good and which less so. The resultant sculpture is the least important part! Good luck.

Hi Jane,

Wow you've really made my day! I am so thrilled that you like it, I hope it gives you a lot of pleasure. I really poured my heart and soul into it and I hope that comes across. Haven't spent any time on here for a while, I'm spread a bit thin as usual and have several other projects on the go. Hope it spurs you on to do more land art of your own. What other activity could be better! Even in winter, so bring on the frost! ;-) Kind regards Richard
