I love it that you are using recycled materials, and yet still creating great stage sets. You're awesome!!

I really love the back drop for this scene. It really sets the tone. Well done.

Recycled...that is awesome! You did a great job on creating an attic scene.

I love your set designs. Not too overdone, but perfect for each story. What a talent you have to be able to do that... very fun!!! :)

First, I am going to not neglect this space. Yes, I do get inspired and feel apart of a creative world when I come to this site. Secondly, I am going to set some creative goals for projects. That side of me has been neglected for years, actually hid…

Profile Information

What's Your Favourite Way To Create?
My new passion is designing sets. Work with a small theater group but it is a challenge to develop on a shoestring/ "go green" budget. The ultimate recyling/altered art project ever is created for each performance. Dabble in most anything that catches my eye though pottery I have yet to master. Love wire/metal work, altered arts and crafts of any sort.
Favourite Artists (in ANY creative medium)
The Quilts of Gee Bend quilters, Henri Matisse, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent Van Gogh, Andy Warhol , Rodin, Michaelangelo, children's book illustrator- Micheal P. White and Laura Seeley, Stan Lee, to name a few
Greatest Creative Moment You've Had?
When I was driving down the street and on a huge billboard was a logo I designed for a local football team. To see something I created appearing all over town and on billboards, it was a "wow" moment. The moment that defined me as an artist was when my first set won best set.
What's Your Biggest Creative Dream?
My dream is to open an unique art infused interactive museum. I want to have a place where teachers can come and learn how to integrate the arts in to all subjects and all grade levels so all children can take advantage of their unique style of learning. We forget that the creative mind is the key to success, schools often squelch it is for a more uniform way of thinking.

When the music stops

Fall must be a rebirth time for me. It is the start of the theater season where my wildest creations become the backdrop for talented young actors and actresses who bring it to life. The challenge of a tiny budget and limited time become an obsession which takes me from the dulldrums of the office into a creative whirl wind of color and texture which so does not exsist in my daily routine. I live for the moment I get the call from the director, " rehersal starts tomorrow, come work your magic!"… Continue

Creative outreach

In the mist of a bad day, a creative slogan caught my eye on a car outside of my office -- save the ta-tas! At first I was shocked and then I could not stop laughing. I want to meet the creative soul who took the risk to turn something that scares every woman to death and created such comic relief. Once home, I rushed to the computer to visit the site. Having had a close scare last yr, I am very much a supporter of breast cancer awareness. Some people might feel offended by the slogan and the ot… Continue

found the soul

yes, it happened, i forgot how to laugh, have fun and let loose. i fell victim to the work side and forgot to be creative. well, i had excuses, plenty. i ran from it really because my life had no time for the creative process or the mess, oh, the fun kind where you cover yourself in whatever it is from clay, paint or have beads rolling everywhere. i did escape for a scrapbooking weekend and finished 3 books. but monday came and it was like the creativity was sucked out of me once again. life has… Continue

back again

Yeah, I keep saying that and then disappearing. I have finished two other set productions since then. Pics to follow in a few days. My creative side has been taxed with learning how to build and a brief moment of directing. Have you ever tried to heard cats? Try high school theater. Love the kids and watching their talents bloom from the initial cold read to the final production. Just finished "You are a Good Man, Charlie Brown," and another tree challenge. I will be a stage tree specialist soon… Continue

Playing with mother nature

Another play, this one was a minimal set so all I lended to it was some furniture, and an eye for detail. I did get to explore an art form I never considered before, make-up! Making 15 and 17 yr olds look 70 and 84 was a real artistic challenge but one that I found fun. Seeing my own 15 yr old daughter at 84, with more gray and wrinkles than me was a treat. She reminded me at the end of the day her gray and wrinkles wash out.

So after playing with aging faces, I got the urge to go for

Hi Donna! So glad to see you back on CCS!
Thanks for the comments on the last pics...The "yellow man" and the "green man" aren't related....maybe only in my subconscious, LOL...
Please hang around here more often!

Hi Donna!
Thanks for your comment on my hand-carved stamp! My daughters loved the image. My son said I made him look like a black man (lol).

I used a carving block made specifically for carving stamps. It's from a company called Nasco. They have a website if you want to check them out. Very cool stuff! My friend works for them and she knows I love to make things. She gave me a piece that was discounted for damage. Love it! ; )

Thanks for the request to be my friend! I accept with pleasure. And I'm glad you like the moonstone ring! It particularly works well if you have dirty fingers full of paint, and glue and glitter ;-)

Hi Donna!
Thank you! Actually, my kids think I'm weird... My son is 11 and he always makes fun of my dolls (how girlie...yuck), although he got a kick out of helping me with the troll.
My daughters are indifferent right now. Lia is 21, and U'i is 18. They're in their own worlds. Lia is a gifted painter/artist herself, but she's trying to focus on school and work.

Donna, I love what you wrote about your dream. I was one of those kids that had a hard time with the uniform thinking. I had one awesome teacher in grade school that allowed each student to choose what he or she would do for each subject we studied. She offered writing, models (with report), performance (like a play, song, skit), etc. I totally aced her class. I made models out of construction paper (Model T car, chinese dragon are all I can remember now) that she asked to keep. I was able to give a decent report, because I could better visualize what I was talking about and could show on my models. I will never forget her, though I did forget her name.

Hey Donna,
What's up? I keep thinking you should always be around here since you're just sittin' there at the potter's wheel with clay on your hands! :-)

Hey, girl!
Thanks for inviting me to this group! Actually, the process and the torment have never "left" me...they are embedded in my life now...what I miss is you all and the cool ideas (and their manifestations!) that everyone had. How did you find this? It may take me awhile to get into this, but I'm looking forward to the idea exchange...another leg of the journey!
...more art!
