Congratulations on your house news. You must be feeling so excited - being in limbo can be hard. I'm glad you are daydreaming about your new art space...yippee!!

That sounds delightfully cozy to me! Any chance you can work in a fireplace too, with room for a pair of rocking chairs and a tea table? For those artist's chats, you understand!

What's Your Favourite Way To Create?
I love to paint with acrylics...although I do dabble in other mediums.
Greatest Creative Moment You've Had?
In one of my first drawing classes, the prof gave us a picture that we had to reproduce using charcoal. The catch was that we had to turn the picture upside down and draw it that way. When I turned the finished picture right side up I was sooooooo excited and surprised to see that it came out perfect! I let out a scream saying "wow, it really worked!!".
What's Your Biggest Creative Dream?
I'm planning to retire in 2-3 years, move to a cottage on the ocean (east or west, I'm not sure) and paint to my heart's content!
UPDATE: retirement is imminent this year! Yippee!!
UPDATE October 29, 2009: Contracts have been signed! Closing should be before November 30th!!!

Hi Kat:
Thanks for letting me know you've closed on your house! Great!
I was just near Asheville this past weekend for an Arts and Faith retreat. There were 70 of us there, and we had a wonderful time. We learned so many art forms, renewed friendships, made new ones, had "artful" worship, and enjoyed every moment! Perhaps you might want to join us next year...it'll be the weekend after Easter, 2010. Meanwhile, get settled in your new home, enjoy the gorgeous western North Carolina scenery....so relaxing and stunning at the same time! God bless as you make your move. Best regards, TinkerTwin

OH! How terrific is that, Kat!!! We can actually meet! They have that zoo over there, don't they? I never found my way there yet...maybe we can visit it together some day soon!!!! That would be lovely! Manorvile is east of CI, close to the forks, past Brookhaven, Shirley and north, near Port Jeff, right??? Oh yeah, we can eat ice cream together too! : )

Hi, Almost Neighbor!! Looking forward to having you "down South!" I know you will just love it here. We will have to keep in touch. I have a nephew and family in Asheville and go to see them several times a year. Also, I serve on the staff of an annual "Faith and Arts" retreat at Lutheridge Camp and Conf. Center in Arden, just south of Asheville. We have about 75 in attendance from Thursday to Sunday, usually the weekend after Easter....lots and lots of fun for those interested in all types of art. You just may be interested in this fun event. I can share more about it as time goes by. This will be the eighth year, and folks come from all over the Southeast, and even a group comes from Ohio.
Keep in touch, too! Backatcha soon. TinkerTwin

Hello Kat:
I just read where you are planning to move to Asheville. I live just 2 1/2 hours south of Asheville. You really have chosen well. There are endless lists of possibilities for you to "connect" with art in the Asheville, western NC area. There is a neat little shop in Saluda NC just south of Asheville (maybe 1/2 hour) and it's called "Random Arts." It's a quaint little shop in a quaint little town. Random Arts is alive and thriving. The owners teach art lessons, sell supplies, and so on. Also, the western part of Asheville is a haven for artists of all stripes and colors, if you'll pardon the pun. Downtown Asheville has several (many) art festivals, shops, etc. and etc. You will absolutely LOVE this place. Glad you are going. You will have many new friends and exciting places to visit and to "do art!" Blessings on your new venture in life. TinkerTwin in South Carolina.

When I read you were moving to Asheville, I had to write and tell you what an inspiring locale you will have for creating art. I visited Gatlinburg, TN in October and wished I didn't have to go home. The Smokies are so much more mysterious than any other mountains I've seen. And - to have a whole room to use exclusively as a studio is worth a small fortune. Will be watching for more of your art.

Hi Kat,

I've done that upside down drawing exercise in a class also and was just as thrilled with the outcome! Something I should certainly do more often.

Here's hoping your plans work out great and you find the perfect cottage ... sigh. Sounds really nice. I just took a weekend trip to the Oregon coast with a friend and it is soooo refreshing.

Gotta run, dinner's ready!

Hugs

Yes, my dream is real. I have already started looking into the possibilities of where to live. Affordability is the key obstacle(sp?). So far I have seen some places on the northern part of the Outer Banks of NC (I know, hurricane alley). I have also found several along the eastern end of the southern coastline of CT and RI. This is all "just looking" at this point. I still have to work another 2 years minimum before I can actually say good-bye to my job. Over the next 2 years I will have to scale down the "stuff" I have accumulated over the last 14 years since my divorce. I currently live in a 1900 sq ft townhouse. My hope is to find a little cottage of about 1000 sq ft. Something just big enough for me and my kitties...and easy to take care of. I will keep you all abreast of my progress! And thank you all for the support!!
