She's called: The Berry Maiden... twenty minutes after I hung her at the gallery, she was sold! Off to a new home. Made it a good Friday indeed.

Black Birds...
Right now I find myself painting birds one right after another... Like many artists, I am especially drawn to black birds: crows, ravens, and of course - blackbirds, and even red-winged blackbirds. But I like the shapes of starlings, grackles and other sleek avian specimens as well - and expect to see them all flitting and sitting on future canvases and panels.

Hearing voices...

I've managed to keep her mostly silent these past several months. Her angst and fear can drive calm and confidence from the most secure and self-possessed, not to mention me. I'm the best of her - and yet I'm just another of her selves, her voices - the one somewhere in the middle that she returns to - tuning in after a swing to one precipitous edge or another... the even-toned, reassuring voice of optimism.

- As I get older, I'm a more conservative rider. I say that yet I get on these wild horses every weekend. Saddlebred/TWH crosses are my faves. Their gait is the smoothest ride ever. A funny story about an oval: my friends cut an oval in their pasture some years ago, to exercise their horses and have "redneck races" on Saturday nights. It was pretty large, like a race track. Their horses would have their own races on that oval, all by themselves, if nobody was out there to ride them. So anyway they rescued this horse and brought him home. He was a small gelding, supposedly a thoroughbred, supposedly a retired race horse. So I thought, he's no race horse, he's too little. I saddled him up and got on him. He lit out for that oval like greased lightning. It was the scariest ride of my life, and all I could do was grab a handful of mane and pray, until he decided to slow down. They were rolling on the ground laughing.
I live in Smyrna, so I'm not too far from you. I'll have to mapquest it and see when I can get up there........

- She's probably only about 16h, not very big. I've been riding some 18h horses recently...they feel like giants. If we're practically neighbors,I'd love to come see your horses! (and maybe take a ride?)

Two weeks, yikes. I'm pretty sure I got this from a guy who called to have me do an estimate on housecleaning and then stood me up. I had no idea he was sick until later ... I didn't do the job, but did come in contact and shook his hand when we met. Ravenrest brought me the message to rest :) I've slept most of the day away with the aid of Nyquil ... the cough is the worst.

- Hope you're feeling a whole lot better now, Patrice. Yesterday afternoon I came down with the creeping crud :( Prolly spend the day curled up on the couch with a heat pad and cup of ginger tea. Yuck. I get so frustrated and impatient with myself for not having the energy to do a darn thing! Eventually it becomes obvious I'm just making things worse with my anxiety about it so I'll have to just go with it.

- Hi Patrice, Honey is not my horse. She belongs to a friend of mine. I ride a lot but don't have a horse of my own right now. So I end up riding the "extra" horses my friends have, the ones nobody else wants to ride. So I do quite a bit of bronco-busting, but at least I get to ride!
