Why I like Short Story Writing. AND the power of the poet

To me, the short story is custom made for the internet. It should be terse, have an immediate hook and be evocative. The ending should always be unexpected and should leave the reader feeling sated and thirsting for more. I believe that a good novel should treat its chapters as if they were short stories and thus keep the reader wanting more.
I believe that a good short story should never tell the whole story or paint a complete picture - I want my reader to fill in the blanks. For example in my short story 'His Special Tea' I never reveal the gender of the main character - for some reason this makes the reader identify with the main character easier.

The power of the poet is touching the untouchable
putting words to silence
and piercing the heart of unknown readers
who thought they knew what they knew,
(little did they know it wasn’t so)

These are my thoughts - I look forward to to your thoughts.

Gratitude as in Attitude

I have just read Dan's blog about chocolate cake, creativity, and gratitude. And that blog inspired me to write a gratitude journal. I wondered where I could start this discussion. Then I wondered if it should be a discussion at all. My reasoning being that I would be the only person… Continue

My Muse Kissed Me (but It Tasted Funny)

When I took Creative Writing in college, my professor gave me a bit of advice :

Be careful what you write as Satire or Parody because these days there is always someone who will take you seriously, dead seriously.

I never forgot those words, but occasionally I have misplaced them in my head and when I do that I attempt to write parody/satire.

Once I wrote story about a talking dog that talked about nothing else except how good my REALLY GREAT NOVEL tasted when he ate it. I thought out loud (i… Continue

Morning Page Breakthrough (at least for me)

Now I get it - I finally get it, the truth about the purpose of morning pages.

I have experienced morning pages in four or five different periods of my life.
Each time, I did them I got better at doing them but up until now it was a always a battle for me to do these pages both time-wise and content-wise.

Time-wise, I have wondered why they take so long ? and Do I have enough time to finish them ? Are they really morning pages if I do them at night ? Do I have to do them all at the same time o… Continue

Hi Frank: Fergus is about 1 1/2 hours away from Toronto, closer to Guelph. It's a small Scottish town with 10,500 people.

I am so close to completing the first draft of my book...only 20-30 pages to go. I need a swift kick in the butt to get moving!

Sorry for the slow reply...I was away in Mexico for a week.

You're welcome, Frank!

The visual art side of you is interesting to me...shows your humorous joyful side, as well as your spiritual side...just as your writing does!

I cannot wait to see those hands in larger format, Frank!

Just as I thought about the new tao...I agree...we don't need anymore static concepts about the workings/playings of this dynamic universe!!

Yeah, I don't want anyone to tell me about how I am supposed to be because of age! Seems the older I get the more I wanna play!!! LOL!

Blessings from Camille

I love goth, especially black and red :) I think the choice of white for the text makes it readable enough. Is there any way to enlarge text here? I haven't done much exploring lately on the options. Hey there's a full moon tomorrow and an eclipse to boot, so things are a little weird all over ... and when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro, according to Hunter S. Thompson, bless his soul :)

Wow you've really done some weird stuff to your page, Frank! I like it.
Have you done any doodling lately?

All I've been doing is hanging out online, procrastinating. No, not really. I did get up to age 30 with my time line and still write MPs every am .. that's about it.

Hi Frank

Thanks for getting back to me and the pointers on the groups. I think, for starters, I will join the taking out the trash group. Sounds fun :>)

I don't still write poetry although I used to like writing haikus. Might join that group at some point.

Do I find the groups on the main page?

bye for now :>)
