I finally found some poems from 2000 I've talked about in a few places before on CCS, where I went through a phase of finding English a little limited and wanted to write more in purely phonetic way.
These four poems I wrote in sequence over about a week. You can see the disintegration, or reinvention, of language along the way. You'll see I was not too keen on punctuation or capitalisation either!
Desculation and Meslan especially are among my favourite ever…

Some of you will have met Michael Nobbs already, as I've talked about him before, and met him myself through the Art + Money book I read last year.
Michael's an amazingly inspiring person who supports himself full time through his drawing, writing and blogging, which is an achievement enough, before you even know of his struggles with ME/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome which can render him bedridden for hours and days at a time.
Anyway, Michael asked to interview me…

At the start of 2010 my word for the year was fruition.
And when I look back over the last 12 months, I can see that plenty of fruit has grown!
I've summarised over on A Big Creative Yes, some of the highlights of what I did in 2010...

Hi Dan,
I've been thinking about your Ports of Call post. I looked for it on Google+ but couldn't find it. If I have to get somewhere in the morning, 11am or earlier there's no way I'm going to get to my creative stuff, no time. That said, I think you are right. If I just made creativity my 3rd thing after breakfast and pills, I think I'd get a lot more done. I don't usually write in the morning, I do embroidery, but perhaps I could write a poem? Just wanted to let you know that that particular post really made me think. Hope life is treating you grand!
Anne
thanks for the link Dan. I'll look at it tonight.
Yeah, I often use the tension and stress in my life as the switch too, that starts the burn.......
Live happens........and there is always stress of some kind........even happy stress and tension.....
Paul Simon talked about this in an interview. Anxiety of his own is often the fuel that creates wonderful lyrics and music.....
Hi Dan - I hope to get back to CCS at some point, but right now I'm dealing with some financial and family messes that need urgent attention. I'm trying to get in some zentangle sketching most nights... it seems to have a slightly soothing effect after being stressed and depressed these days. Thanks for asking :)
Dan! The new Stan Laurel pose is brilliant. Like it.
Hi Dan,
Thanks for the Hello. Our Uni term started last week so I'm kind of getting back in the swing of things. Had a lovely relaxing Christmas break, but now that we're back to term-time my energy has been pretty haywire, which is why I've been lying low. I only had one thing I was worried about getting done: the Tax Return. But I've actually filed that early this year... phew! So now I've got time to move onto some art.
Happy New Year to you.
Sam
When did you last just show up and get straight into creating?
Creating without endless internal analysis and debate?
Creating without finding a dozen other things to do that suddenly seemed more important?
Procrastination is simply doing one thing to avoid doing something else.
As artists we seem more prone than most.
And the something we're avoiding is creating the work that matters to us.
Exploring and expressing the ideas within us desperate to be heard.
Which is why I'm leading a new group coaching course on How To Beat Procrastination, starting Feb 11th.
