How To Stop Being Overwhelmed and Start Creating

Whatever your main creative outlet, I'm sure there have been times when you've felt overwhelmed with the size of a new project.

Take writing, for example, and a novel you've wanted to write for as long as you can remember. Thinking of the novel as a whole is helpful at first, to get an overall idea of what you want to write. But then actually getting started is a different matter.

Should you begin with a plot outline? Should you define the lead characters? Should you plan the locations and sce… Continue

Simple Pleasures: The Art Of Happiness

Happiness is closer than you think.

Happiness is not about being incredibly rich, going on an amazing holidays, having a huge house and a fleet of luxury cars.

It begins with recognising what makes you feel good. And since you aren’t exactly the same as me, or anyone else, that recipe for being happy is going to be a little different too.

You know that old expression “Simple Pleasures?” It’s well known with good reason!

If you can’t recognise the little details that make you happy, then y

Creativity, Motivation, And The Dark Side Of The Future

As a Creativity Coach, I help people move towards the creative life they wish to be living. Part of this is about getting in touch with what you want, what you enjoy, what you’re really passionate about, and so on, so you can begin to move towards these things.

I’m also a great advocate of positive thinking, and know how influential our thoughts can be on how we live our lives, what we achieve, what we attract into our lives and how happy we are.

So far, so positive.

But sometimes, just soContinue

How To Encourage Your Creative Ideas To Come Out And Party All Night!

Do you struggle to have enough good creative ideas?

The trouble with creative ideas is they’re often a little shy. And a little nervous.

They need coaxing and encouraging, and don’t tend to rush up in a clown costume with blaring trumpets going “LA LA LA we’re heee-errrre!” to any party they’re invited (or not invited) to.

You have to create the right kind of conditions for the ideas to form, so they feel safe and respected and valued.

This may sound a bit of a soft focus fuzzy edged… Continue

How To Magically Make New Creative Ideas Appear

Can you imagine what the life of any creative artist would be like without any ideas? Quite simply there would BE no creative life! Ideas are the starting point for everything we create.

Sometimes though, ideas feel about as easy to come by as a rain storm in the desert.

There are many ways you can help yourself have more ideas, and this is one of the most effective, using a little bit of magic.Continue

Hi Dan,

Thank you for your comment on my blog about sharing creative issues even when I have nothing fabulous to "show." I really struggle with that and now you've motivated to accept and share my creative journey wherever she leads :)

Hi Dan, Just (finally) read your article on creativity and selfishness. Wow - you've have addressed this issue SO well – I've really struggled with that. I particularly appreciated what you wrote about "Your own good feeling and happiness naturally radiates." Now I get what people have finally been trying to tell me. Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom!

My repurposing efforts tend toward the practical. Example: A really old ironing board from the days when they were made of wood that I found at the Goodwill store. I cleaned it up a bit, left the original green paint on the legs, fixed the warped top and sealed it. The board now functions as a catch-all table in the entrance way. Okay, that's not creative, but I had so much fun doing it and I love the reactions of visitors! Thank you for wonderful site.
