Chinese New Year isn't until Feb. 7th, but 2008 is the Year of the Rat. Good title for a piece of writing, if you ask me.

Ok, so this really happened the year before the Year of the Rat. A little poetic license.



Rat





It was the Year of the Rat
Before the economy plummeted
Things weren’t great,
But they weren’t this bad either.

That Rat, well he’s no longer
In the Mr. Universe contest
God knows he was from outer space
Mr. Sweden, did he represent
That whole country, Malmo to Gothenburg.

In my mind, he always will
Be a reminder of what I don’t want
A trans-Atlantic romance
Made up of phone calls and chat
Letters only going East
As if the Swedish post office
Had broken down
I knew better, but my heart
Didn’t.
