Here is one of my singy-songy poems

I have to share this... it is a wonderful way to mix media that includes fiber, fabric and words:
Quilting Arts Embellishments:
Take concept to quilt with Inspired to Quilt: Creative Experiments in Art Quilt Imagery

Have you ever thought about creating quilts inspired by your creativity journals? “Maintaining a journal is a holistic experience,” says art quilter Melanie Testa. “It allows you quick and easy access to your own internal creative world, and given time, your own personal visual language will emerge.”

Julia, my breath is taken away by this gorgeous airy, photo image and the word prayer is touching to me as well!

AW Julia, the blue is the color picture and word images are so soulful! Love the magical "pixie dust" I see in the leaves! Beautiful, poetic expressions!

Hugs thanks so much Bev, your words are so encouraging-I'm feeling a bit flat on the creative side at the moment, your words give me a new zeal to write what I feel.

Photography is my source material, this is where I start-then comes the 'creative playing bit', where I go to my toolbox of digital filters and effects, and manipulate the images until I feel a sense of that "eureka' moment-and I stop then.
Sometimes I write something appropriate to the image, but rarely-The two exist separately and together-if that makes sense!

I used to write poetry/prose much more often in years past-sometimes I feel I have used up all the language that my mind can remember, and so I go through this awful drought of not being able to write anything at all!-generally the words flow easily, and I rarely go back to change things-when my heart is burdened with many things, sometimes it is just too overwhelming to write, and my mind goes on in dizzy circles, wanting to reach for the pen and paper, but images and words come in too fast for me to write it all down-then I am sorry I didn't!

I think that somewhere along the line, we must be soul sisters-you seem to interpret my symbolism so eloquently-thanks for that, it's special :-)

Wow, Julia, Wow, you took a rather realistic image and transformed it into a dreamy world. You are quite the whiz with the digital program and I love all the symbolism you write that pertains to the image. You are so so a writer and an artist. Just curious, do you find yourself bouncing back and forth between say writing words and painting and photographing images. Or do you prefer one over the other. I will sometimes get a tad bored with one creative medium and move to another, always staying creatively energized and thus not losing interest or momentum.
A weeping willow symbolic of the tears shed - this is such deep profound symbolism, it grips my heart deeply.
And how you took the symbolism of a sad occasion in the past and linked it to the sadness of all these fires burning now in your country.
I do love the colors, and the abstract surrealism of your created image. Flowing and weeping tears, I do hope the rains keep coming and the fires stop!!!I pray with you and say the prayer you wrote here aloud and send healing your way.

To be honest Bev, you grasped my feeling about the pic in a pretty spot on way, very intuitive hugs

This is a digitally enhanced image -the original was a photo of our beautiful Murray River, which has all of these naturally dead trees in the middle of it-river steamers run up and down her more westerly parts, but not at this end of course! -it's such a beautiful and restful environment-the river runs its healing course through rugged bush and steep clay banks, yet always remains a water bearer of our land-even her waters are running low now, in this seemingly never ending drought.

The land is tinder dry at the moment, and the bush is far from being safe for the rest of this summer.

The object you see twisted lower right was a bridge, which I took some liberties with-it reminded me of the twisted wrecks of burnt out houses and melted iron ,piles of charred remains, yet underlying this chaos was control-by firemen, police, people from everywhere, rushing in to help those who suffered such great loss. It seems to give the pic some stability, echoing the quiet control of those volunteers who did their utmost in the midst of such terror and disaster.

You put the words so well "The grasses? that hare hanging from the top seem to float in gentleness. I feel Mother Nature's loving hand nurturing hand reaching out to your country.
The grasses are actually the wispy fringe of an overhanging 'weeping willow', symbolic of the tears shed...

I no longer have the original photo, but this shot with the child is taken at the same jetty but from a different angle, so that will give you an idea of the process!
We were at the funeral of a very dear friend, who died too young-so there is that symbolism too...

As I mentioned, I take a lot of liberties with my photos!

Hi Julia,
Oh, the prayer and picture are so soothing and healing. It sounds like writing this out is helping you to heal. Can you describe the image a bit more, what it is trying to say? The cool aqua greens seem to be a refreshing way to overcome the fires and heat that your country is dealing with. The grasses? that hare hanging from the top seem to float in gentleness. I feel Mother Nature's loving hand nurturing hand reaching out to your country. Just my thoughts from looking at the picture, but I connect to it on a deep emotional level. So beautiful the poem, yet so wistful sounding. Do you feel like elaborating on what the image depicts and what mediums you used to create it. The words first and then the image or the other way around?

I posted this in my narrative time line, and our gorgeous Bodacious Barb suggested I post this prayer and my pic in here too...

It's basically a prayer from me for our people in Victoria, Australia who have lost homes and loved ones in bush fires-the last count of people dead was near 180, with more bodies still expected to be found. It is the worst single disaster in Australia's history, and so devastating.

I have felt demotivated and depressed since the fires, the disaster seems to have caused a national mourning, and we all are shocked, especially since one of the major losses of life was in an area which was deliberately lit! His name is being withheld, the people would tear him apart, but he will probably be psychologically assessed and get off the mass murder criminal charge!-they have known of him for years, he has done this before, but evidently there is now evidence!. Let's hope our law makers take a firmer stance...

A prayer whispered on the wind-
a tide of love washes over the fiery land,
quenching and replenishing the anguish of loss...

I like it better the old way, too, Maureen, but Ning is always updating and they could possibly include those new links in the CCS emails eventually...
