So funny....I got this message just after I said "I quit! I'm going home!" Yeah...I've gotta step away from this for a bit before I start hating this poor girl. I wish I could type fast, lol!!!

Wendy,
Only just found this new discussion of yours. Congrats on the interview. Well done. With the lady and the hair I am disturbed by her being silenced by her hair. I keep wondering what is going on with that. I guess I like self expression and people being able to talk and it bothers me she can't or won't.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for the congratulations and I appreciate what you've said about hair-lady. I find the image disturbing as well. I think there must be a part of me that feels this way - or - empathizes with her issue in a big way. That often seems to compel me to express something so that experience is seen, out in the open, rather than hiding inside.

Interesting the way images can affect us, isn't it? They can be very powerful.

Wendy,
What do you feel about the lady and her inability to speak as you are a great sharer. Are you comfortable with sharing?

It's funny...I feel pretty comfortable about sharing deep things, but when it comes to small (or even medium, lol,) talk, I completely flub. Similarly, I can articulate very well when I write, but when I speak I'm constantly tripping over my words...

Sounds familiar Wendy, I'm like that. Quite happy to get into deep and meaningful conversation in person, but struggle to talk about the weather, or the news or whatever. Getting better though.

I'm reading an interesting book about social situations and relationships. It's called "How To Talk To Anyone" by Leil Lowndes. She speaks about the purpose of small talk in a way that really changed my view of it as meaningless and inane chatter!

She says for example: "small talk is not about facts or words. It's about music and melody. Small talk is about putting people at ease. It's about making comfortable noises together, like cats purring, children humming, or groups chanting. You must first match your listener's mood... Top communicators pick up on their listener's tone of voice and duplicate it... think music, not words..."

Wow...love that description from the book! I'm going to be in a social situation today – I'll keep that in mind! Glad to hear someone else understands, Dan. Thank you! :)
Dan, Interesting to read about small talk. i am not good in large groups, parties, where there is the need for small talk. I find it tedious. I am getting better at it though.

Nice one Dan-a lovely way to think of it :-)
I do not get the crime victim...I think because the crop contains her, furthering the impression sh is containing herself/ her words. I may have felt the victim thing had you not cropped bringing her to the edge ( her boundary perhaps) - she would seem a small timid figure without it- The crop adds strength

Thank you, Jules! I hadn't thought of it that way....I like it! Yippee...

Re: the PBS show, it should be posted on the station's website when it airs – not 'til February though! :)
