So day thirty of the September Thirty Days of Creating is upon us already. Where'd the time go??

With projects like these it's a great idea to look back and see what we've learned and how we've progressed, it gives us more confidence for the future, for the next thirty days, and beyond...

So a couple of questions:

1. What's the most valuable thing you've learned or gained from thirty days of creating?

2. How much more creative are you than you thought you would be?

Thanks for taking part, and see you in the October thirty!

Loads of great stuff here Wendy. What I especially like:

15 minutes a day DOES add up, and more than the amount of time it adds to, the momentum is invaluable. Waiting for the "perfect" time to create is very common and such a creativity killer! There will never be a perfect time to create, and yet the perfect time to create is right here, right now, with whatever you've got...

When you say "consistent practice" I thought of practice in the sense of we practice something ove and over so we get better at it, but also a practice in the more spiritual sense, like a daily worship, or ritual, or meditation. It has been said that creativity is a religion (Creativity Coach Eric Maisel promotes this idea often in his writing) and in that case we indeed need a daily practice that is the core of that religion. Fifteen minutes a day is a brilliant way to do this.

Updating out loud - oh yes, another key element. I said in another reply here that just knowing that someone else knows we're creating, rather than feeling we're slaving away in some vacuum, is a huge incentive to create more. I hear of SO many artists who have a blog to share their art and their readership is pretty much their mum, best friend and cat. It's so sad and demoralising. When we have a creative, supportive group like here on CCS, it's so precious. It's bonus to then actually get praise/feedback for our art too, as you explained so well.

Wendy, I'm so glad I shared September with you and you got the wonderful feelings that I got when I did my first 30 day challenge. Isn't it awesome.

It may just be me but as I start into this, I found myself getting busier and busier. Now much of that busy was creative, but suddenly I found I was away more and my days are claimed by other people's projects. That said, in September I painted three paintings, designed four theatre sets of various sizes and painted two. Before applying myself to this discipline, I would have said I was a failure for not following through with a daily show and tell and yet, in order to get done what I successfully got done, I had to apply myself most days to at the very least, creative thinking. I really was a success no matter how I look at it.
Thanks Dan for giving us this forum to share and create.
In joy ,
Nancy
