2B or Not 2B

Upon coming to CCS I was anxious to share some of my work. As I'm a notorious doodler and sketcher I joined the Doodling group. But after some exploring I discovered that there was no sketching or drawing group outside of doodling. Call me a neat freak, but I thought I'd make a dedicated group to sketches that aren't quite doodles.

I know that many artists, myself included, keep a sketchbook on them nearly at all times and so I thought I would come and share some of my own work once a week and encourage others to do the same. Please feel free to make your own discussion and share from your own sketchbook here.

If you'd like a definition of what "sketching" means, exactly:
1: a rough drawing representing the chief features of an object or scene and often made as a preliminary study

I plan to post my sketches here and my doodles in Doodling. 'Cause I got lots of both.

It's a hybrid. Not quite watercolor, not just a graphite or pen sketchbook either. Today begins my adventure in sketch-watercolor work, with bits of Japanese sumi-e as well. Here is my first real s...

Julia,
Don't fix it if it ain't broken. I find abstract work very intriguing and deep and meaningful and perplexing. Those are good things. My work is slowly going abstract. I keep leaving pieces of real in the abstract work just to keep one foot on the ground, but who knows someday I might take the plunge and become pure abstract. Speaking of a feast for the eyes, I see lots of eyes and various other creatures in this drawing.(and doodles). Do you have anything in mind when you do an abstract or do you just go with the flow?

Hey I like your abstracts, Julia. They are a feast for the eyes!

Glad I found this group-I think I might go play with some charcoal-way to go ben, you and Fi are so encouraging and enthusiastic-so good to find!

This is an oldie-the problem is all of my sketches are SO abstract-I really should do something representational, but it just isn't my forte!

Feel free to post anything you'd like! The Corkboard is a completely public place to share everyone's art, or start your own thread if you'd like. Anyone and everyone is open to answering any questions you might have as you flex the ol' drawing muscles and please don't hesitate to add your own experiences as well.

Also, feel free to start any group challenges or projects to keep the artwork incoming. I'm swamped with work at the moment but come Spring Break I've got a fun project that everyone might enjoy. :3
