SoulCollage Playground

SoulCollage® is an intuitive art process created by Seena Frost. We make cards from magazine images, scissors, glue and mat boards. It's a simple, fun process that involves journaling activities to go deeper into the meaning of the cards.

Hello. Mary H just told me about the group here and I joined to see what you guys are working on. I have made lots of soul collage cards in the past, but that is about as far as I got with them. I tried writing with a couple and that was fun, but, I spend most of my time arting rather than writing. I will be checking in here once in a while, if that is okay.

Hi everyone! I am SO sorry that I dropped the ball here. We adopted a 5 year old rescue Lab and that has been taking up a lot of my free time. Plus I am working on a promotion plan for my new book, Bright Side of the Road: A Spiritual Journey Through Breast Cancer... But I really didn't mean to stop posting here. As for a date to finish a new card by... please be aware that SoulCollage® is never about schedules and deadlines but ALL about trusting the process. So just listen inside yourself for what you feel might be next for you in the process.... ie: An evening tearing images from magazines.... a half hour sorting through the images you already have.... 20 minutes doing some journaling with a card you've already made.... Just take some time and be still... and hear what is going on inside you first. You can set your own deadlines... it's such an individual process, see?

Hi Anne Marie,
Sorry for the delay in responding to your response, but I wanted to thank you for answering my questions. You are probably "on to" something there, with the procrastination issue! I procrastinate in all areas, especially things I am not familiar with or haven't done before.

As for the "fear of not having enough" -- that is very interesting. I think there is some fear there, but perhaps more of a "fear of never finding such a great photo again." I must be like Lin in the "image geek" category (her words, not mine!) Still, your advice about trusting the process and letting go of fear resonate strongly with me.

Thanks again. I wonder if we could set a "SoulCollage card date" ... a date when we can aim to get a card finished. At least for me, it would motivate me to get started.

I am leading a SoulCollage Retreat this weekend in Massachusetts, so am off group for a few more days. Jump in everyone!

I am a SoulCollage virgin. I got my wonderful kits but haven't mnade my first card. I want to get a wide tip gold pen to make borders around the edges before I paste down the images and just haven't gotten to the craft store for it yet. Hopefully I'll make it tomorrow. I have my eye on some images speaking to me already, even though I haven't done much of the readings about SC yet. I'm looking forward to this. I think I'll be scanning in the pictures before I use them- I'm an image geek! But I'll just do that with the images I plan on using for a card, not everything!

I am going to add my two cents here...I am new to this as well- but my first two cards were images that I have had for a very, very long time...I could just never throw them away (eeven thought I could not think of anything to do with them other than put them back into the file) because they evoked something in me.
When I made them...especially the first card, I discovered these images represented long ignored surpressed and mistreated aspects of myself.
The act of making these cards with these ancient images was powerful...I was wondering part way through, if my tears falling all over the place would ruin the medium I was using.
When work slows I will post them in a discussion here

Hi Maureen!

Glad you are enjoying the SoulCollage Workshop in a Box kit that you ordered. If anyone else needs one, it is in the KaleidoSoul Shop (along with lots of other goodies!) here: www.KaleidoSoul.com/shop.html

As for your questions, I will give my opinion here... but others can feel free to give their ideas/opinions too.

1. Sometimes when I see images I really like, I want to scan them in case I want to use them for another project. Then I procrastinate because it's another thing to do. Well, there is probably apart of you, an inner voice, who is procrastinating, thinking of reasons not to begin. It also sounds like maybe ... maybe there is a "fear of not having enough" at work here. I sometimes do the same thing. It's been a really hard lesson for me to learn, to just let go of this fear, and just trust the process. I can trust that I will have enough images, and the "right" images will be there when I need them. It's a powerful process, and the lessons I learn from just the simple act of card making reflect within the bigger life lessons as well

Again, please pay no heed to anything I am saying that doesn't resonate with you. MY experience might not be YOUR experience!

2. I have a file folder of images that I have cut out from magazines ... but is it okay to use those, or do I need to make the image-finding a part of the card-making process? i.e., if I am going to make a card, can I just pull from some images I already have, or do I need to sit down and pull some more images that strike me? It's perfectly okay to use images from your files! Any image that is calling to you at any given time, is perfect for you to use. Go ahead and see what happens!

Hope this helps. Keep the discussion going!
And others... please jump in and add your own two cents worth!

Peace, joy,
Anne Marie

I am not high-tech enough to try digital! Too much of a learning curve for me I guess. So I know what you mean, Barbara, about preferring the cut and paste, hands-on, getting gluey thing! Wonder if others feel the same?

I have a couple of cards that would fit into suits like Community. I haven't really aimed for that though, I just zone out and play when I make them, with no rules except what pleases me in the moment. I don't use copies, I use what I pull from the magazine. It makes the card unique for me. I've tried digital and not had the same feeling, I prefer the childlike pleasure of cutting and arranging and pasting by hand. Haven't done any readings as I don't have many cards yet ...

Hi Anne Marie! I am very new to soul collage, and actually haven't made any cards yet. I did purchase your kit -- I can't remember what it's called but it might be a "beginner's kit". I love it! And I LOVE your e-book ... it is so well organized and easy to understand.

I made it all the way up to where we are ready to start making a card. Now it's a matter of finding some quiet time alone to do the card-making. My two girls (ages 5 and 9) are home for the summer, so I have little time alone.

I have run into a few sticking points, too. They mostly have to do with my "perfectionist and ADD tendencies" I think! They are:

1. Sometimes when I see images I really like, I want to scan them in case I want to use them for another project. Then I procrastinate because it's another thing to do.
2. I have a file folder of images that I have cut out from magazines ... but is it okay to use those, or do I need to make the image-finding a part of the card-making process? i.e., if I am going to make a card, can I just pull from some images I already have, or do I need to sit down and pull some more images that strike me?

That's it for now! Thanks for any feedback, and I am so glad that you are here starting this discussion!

Fondly, Maureen
