So here's part 2 of my story!

Family Redemption Part 2

“Come now Mara, don’t you want to greet your guest?” said Monica with a massive grin on her face. “You do recognise him don’t you? It is the bones of your father after all!” Utter disbelief took over Mara at that exact instance; and then it moved on to incredible anger. She was furious; but then the skeleton laughed and fear swelled up in her body yet again.

“Dad…. It’s me Mara, don’t you remember your Mara?” said Mara trying to bring him around. He just laughed and turned his head to face Monica.

“Kill?” he said in a cracked and dry voice. Monica stared at Mara for a few minutes before giving the orders.

“Yes dear, but not just yet. I need to have a word with our friend Mara here,” said Monica and the skeleton turned and faced Mara once again; breathing heavy and waiting to pounce.

“He will not listen to you Mara, he’s not the person you remember him to be. I have cast a spell on his bones and raised him from his grave; I thought it would be quite fitting for father to kill daughter,” continued Monica. “You will die now Mara, get her! Kill her now!” screamed Monica and pointed the skeleton in Mara’s direction.

Mara watched her father begin his walk towards her; he was slow and old. She tried to run, to scream, but she couldn’t. She couldn’t even move; it was like her dream all over again. When the skeleton made his way half way across the room he stopped. He raised his right hand and grabbed hold of one of his ribs. He snapped it off; it sounded like two people breaking a wish-bone. Mara could see that the rib had been sharpened like a knife; Nicole had tampered with her fathers bones. So that was how he was going to kill her, she looked around at her surroundings; just a bookshelf and one-seater lounge was all she had access to. Her sword was no good against a supernatural being; even more so against a skeleton.

He began his walk again and this time he was going for the kill. Mara waited until he was about one foot away and grabbed hold of the bookcase to her right; she tipped it over and crushed the skeleton underneath the books and ornaments that belonged to her father. She felt a wave of sadness hit her when she realised that she had just damaged her own fathers bones; well, if she could call it her father. She could hear movement underneath the bookcase but she knew, the skeleton isn’t getting out from under there any time soon.

“NOOOO!” screeched Monica, “I will kill you tonight Mara! Tonight!” Mara instantly turned around and ran towards the dining room, but Monica was already in the air and floating after her. She could see the pale-green glow in the corner of her eyes as she turned the corner and hid underneath the dining room table. Monica flew in not two seconds later and picked the table up off the floor and chucked it out the window and into the back-yard. The impact made a massive noise, the whole neighbourhood would have heard it.

Mara looked up at her stepmother and saw a face of extreme hatred and pain; and a spirit of incredible strength. She stood up and took two steps backwards; she was trying to get closer to the nearest window. Monica swooped down at her and knocked her to the ground; she quickly got back up and ran towards the window.

The glass shattered and cut her skin as she made impact with the window and landed on the soft grass outside. She covered her head with her arms and waited for it to stop raining glass; as soon as it did Monica was standing in front of her. Monica took two steps back and began to chant something in strange language, and right at that moment Mara could feel the ground beneath her begin to move.

She tried to get up and run, but every time she tried she just fell back down. It was like there were a bunch of hands coming up out of the ground and trying to grab her; to drag her to Hell. She could feel the fingers grabbing for her and the hands pushing to escape from the ground. She got up and kept her balance; Monica stood in front of her and continued to chant. She turned to her left and began walking towards the front yard of her house; she had to walk slowly, the hands were still grabbing for her feet.

Monica stopped chanting and Mara ran for her life. Her run was cut short when she felt a stabbing pain in her right calf muscle; Monica had stabbed her with a piece of the broken glass from the window. Mara fell to the ground and grabbed at her leg in pain, Monica flew towards her immediately. Mara knew she had to get up and run; she tried but all she could do was stand.
Monica landed in front of her and began chanting again. This time it was harder for Mara to keep balance, but she did. She felt a new energy flood her body; it was the will to live. She began to walk towards the front yard again, it was only a few feet until she turned the corner. Monica began to chant louder, but Mara was unstoppable.

She finally reached the front yard and to her surprise she saw something that she had hoped for. In her driveway were blue and red lights flashing lights that belonged to two police cars. The police officers were standing in the front yard screaming out for whoever was in the house to come out with their hands up.

Mara stumbled into their view and said in a soft voice, “Help….. Please help me.” Two of the police officers raced towards her, picked her up and carried her to one of the police cars. Her vision was blurry and she could barely feel the pain in her right leg. She sat up on the back seat and looked out of the window at the four police men surrounding her house; they had their guns pointed at the front door as if they were waiting for someone to come out.

A pale-green light took over the entire house and shined out of all of the windows. Then, as if a bomb had been triggered, every single window in the house exploded and the cops dived to the ground to dodge the falling glass. The house returned to normal and Mara stared at the door waiting for Monica to fly out. She never came; the police got back up onto their feet and waited to see what would happen next. Nothing happened.

The youngest cop on the force came over to Mara and opened the car door. “Are you alright?” he said in a soft voice. Mara couldn’t answer; she was still shocked about what had happened. She would never tell the police about her father, never. The cop smiled at her, it was a smile of concern and care. “My name’s John. What is your name?”

“M…Mara,” she said. John gave her a grey blanket to rap herself up in and asked her if she wanted a coffee. She declined the coffee but took the blanket with open arms. All of a sudden John turned around and ran to the house when he heard is partner screaming; Mara sat up straight and looked out of the window.

It was Nicole walking out of the front door with her son screaming in her arms. “Freeze! Drop to the ground! Don’t come any closer or I will shoot!” continued to scream John’s partner. They had their guns pointed at her; so she slowly sank to the ground and placed Simon safely onto the soft grass.

The cops were on her in an instance and had her handcuffed and kicking in seconds. They dragged her to the police car opposite the one Mara was in and placed her into the back seat. She was screaming at Mara, “See what you have done now! I will be back soon, they can’t keep me for long!” Mara just buried her head into her blanket and slowly drifted into unconsciousness.

Mara awoke in the Police Station the next morning and found John sitting on a chair asleep next to her. “Hello? Are you awake John?” she asked.

“You remember my name. That’s a good start,” said John as he looked up and gave Mara a massive grin. Mara went bright red and looked down at the ground. John let out a great booming laugh that made the whole Police Station stare at him and Mara, he stood up and offered his hand.

Mara gladly accepted it and stood up right beside john, their bodies were so close together that Mara didn’t even realise it until John pointed it out. She quickly took a step back but didn’t let go of his hand, it was warm; the opposite of the cold moon that was out last night. “Now we need you to come back and look over your house and tell us what has been broken and what exactly happened last night. Is that okay?” said john.

“Yes, that’s okay. Have you searched any of the house?” replied Mara.

“A few of our forensic boys are down there now. We’ll go and meet up with them. Your house is in quite a mess!” Mara followed John to the Police Station’s entrance, but she turned and faced a little office located to the left of the entrance. Nicole was in there being interviewed; she gave Mara a cold evil stare. John grabbed Mara gently by the arm and led her out to his police car.

They arrived at Mara’s house not five minutes later. Mara looked out of the window of her demolished house; it was like a tornado had been through there. John got out of the car and quickly ran around to Mara’s side and opened the door for her.

They walked up the front yard and entered the house through the front door. It looked even worse inside. “We have someone coming around today who is going to replace all of you windows by tonight. And we have some cleaners coming to give your place a good clean for you. Is that okay?” said John.

“Yeah, that’s fine.” Replied Mara. She walked into her lounge room and found the bookshelf had been returned to its original position. She quickly grabbed one of the men that were walking around photographing things by the arm and asked him, “did you find anything underneath the bookshelf?”

“Nothing unusual miss” he replied in a deep rusty voice. She breathed a sigh of relief and turned around and hugged John.

“Thanks for this, I really appreciate it. But I don’t think that I will be sleeping in this house for a while,” she said into his jacket. He hugged her back and then pulled her away from his chest and asked her,

“Can you come and give us your statement upstairs? Just be honest with us and you’ll be okay.” She agreed and followed him upstairs. She made up most of the story about what had happened, she blamed it all on Nicole but asked for them to be gentle with her. She was still her sister.

Mara slept at one of her friends house for the next week; until her house was back to normal. She had become great friends with John, he even asked her out on a date. When she returned to her house it was exactly the same as the night before it had been torn apart. She slept fine, not a single nightmare came her way.

It had been two weeks since the incident, and Mara was fast asleep in her bed. She was dreaming that she was kneeling down in front of her fathers grave stone. Tears were falling from her eyes and the flowers that she had brought were already rotting. The words on the grave stone read:

Robert Colin Steer
1945 - 2009
A loving Father, Husband and a good friend
May He Rest In Peace

All the letters suddenly vanished and the grave stone went bare. She could faintly see new letters beginning to form. She read them aloud:

“I am so sorry Mara. Please forgive me.”

She woke up and staring down at her was her fathers skeleton. He stuck the sharpened rib into her chest and pierced her heart. She looked over to her left and the last image she saw was the naked dead body of John laying next to her and the figure of Monica standing over him. The skeleton was laughing as death took her and darkness formed.

A burst of light took over her vision, and in the distance she could see her father and John waving to her and greeting her. She ran to them and embraced them and she found a new happiness. She knew that Monica would never make it to this place.
