I find one of the dictionary's antonyms above very interesting: "impoverishment".
Traditionally, we think of inactivity as a sure path to poverty. Many call it slothfulness or laziness. But this lists the word impoverishment as a result of not resting. It definitely speaks of a different kind of "poverty".
What kind of poverty do you perceive in this statement? Do you think the word "impoverishment" could be a verb "done unto yourself"?
How do you define wealth?
This raises the question of the value of our mental/creative health versus our perceived worldly, material wealth.
How have you prioritized these? How has CCS impacted how you prioritize these?

I know what you mean, Susan.
She really wrote what so many women think and feel during the ordinary living of our lives.
Her writing perspective lets you know there's more to us than meets the eye, and we all have similar needs in our complex hearts and minds.
No one should feel alone after reading her, and all women should feel beautiful after realizing how wondrous our lives truly are.

I want to thank you once again, DJ for mentioning this author here at CCS. I've been reading daily in the Simple Abundance book, since January. And just found another of her books, called Something More, which I can hardly wait to dive into. Only problem I'm having is too much abundance when it comes to books I want to read!
You're more than welcome, Barb.
Perhaps I need to re-read Simple Abundance to launch my own Spring renewal. I look forward to Sarah's soothing essays as reminders to achieve balance once again after a stressful start to 2009.
I know what you mean about book abundance, too! My stack is getting taller and taller...
I've heard her name mentioned favorably many times, DJ ... and I scan for it at the Goodwill store where I do my book shopping. So far all I have read by her is a selection called "Reviving Our Passion" in a book called "IMAGINE What America Could Be In The 21st Century - Visions of a Better Future from Leading American Thinkers" ... found brand new, at the Dollar Store!

Yeah, the weather changes can feel a bit negative at first, after the warmth of summer days ... heating bills go up, it doesn't stay light as long ... but I've loved having seasons again, after having grown up in So Cal where there isn't much of a change. White Christmases ROCK!

Being SPRING now in the northern hemisphere ... and Easter Sunday ... I've been pondering renewal since waking up this morning, writing thoughts in my morning pages, and feeling very positive and hopeful.

It really is worthwhile to look at these different areas of our lives ... mental, emotional, spiritual and physical ... and to strive for more balance between/among them. I know I have been neglecting some through the winter, and with spring comes a new determination to try and do better.

Yes, I think impoverishment can certainly be something done unto myself, through neglect!

Thanks for leading me back to this discussion, Bodacious.
I definitely need to balance out some areas of my life that have suffered neglect this winter.
Spring and the Easter season bring thoughts of renewal and rebirth, so let the Renaissance begin...

I just found this link posted by Mary in her Vein of Gold discussion ... an artist who is truly awesome, and his life's work destroyed in the recent fires in Australia. I've seen his work and was really saddened that it was gone ... was not aware that he plans to start again. I'm doing a happy dance on my way over to share this with Julia :)
