I know what you mean. I always say I'd rather get a shampoo than a massage. They all do different things though. My friend said those aqua massage machines they have at the mall are terrific. At $7 for 10 minutes, I think it's well worth a moment's luxury if it's true.

Don't be to quick to toss that brush Hannah! I would be willing to do more for a back scratch than I would do for a million dollars

Every winter I get this terrific itch all over my body. So yesterday I bought another of the many common items available which will choke your budget if you're not rich: a back brush. I feel SO decadent. My itch has gone down due to my using Neosporin, another one of the many helpful common products I wouldn't have ordinarily gotten, but it was recommended by a foot doctor when I had this really bad blister he had to pop and thought of using for my itch in despair because nothing else worked. So I don't really need the brush and now I'm thinking I should really return it. But I think I'm gonna keep it. It's so luxurious -- something you don't really need but it feels great.

Good morning Jane:
what a lovely blog you have created here! Very alive and colorful! I love the shades of green you have used here. Thank you so much for your reply to my posting.
As parents that "empty nest" can hit pretty hard. I learned that all to well after having 5 chldren myself. Now another kind of emptyness has taken over due to the passing of my husband.
I understand exactly what you mean about evenings the most. It has taken mE awhile to face daylight once more and my work is not finished yet. I cannot hide or pretend this is not real. So I am working on it one step at a time.
Best of luck to you adjusting. Be brave yet allow yourself to feel your true feelings no matter what they are. We cannot hide from ourselves as you know.......
Blessings,
Zingara,mE

PS I tried to post this on your blog but it would not go through for some reason.

hi zingara - i really loved your description of the start of your day... and it sums up some of what i am feeling just now. My youngest child has just "flown the nest" and although my house is only tiny it now seems vast and empty and silent! I have never lived alone, which is a weird experience for someone aged 56! I have always lived with parents, housemates, husband, children etc and now for the first time i am experiencing life alone. My daughter left on saturday to set up home with her boyfriend and already i sense that my evenings are different and I am looking at ways to occupy myself. This is strange as really she didnt demand much of my attention - but she was there, or expected home and that seems to have made a difference to my pysche!

Of course, as you say, I have other stresses to occupy myself, a demanding job and 3 children with various issues they need to unburden to me - so finding a way of de-stressing and coming to terms with my new life is important especially as my previously listed "trip to the sea" is not something i can do on a daily basis. Writing and meditation will no doubt form a larger part of my life from now on.
Thank you for writing so beautifully... it was a lovely start to my day today.

Hi everyone:
I am the "elder" of the group yet the need to unwind continues to happen in my life. Enough sleep ,yet not bury myself away is most important. I am a widow so living alone means I am my own keeper.
I recently discovered I was avoiding life by sleeping away my days then staying up all night. That way real life passed me by. Not healthy yet very habit forming. I am currently working on changing that fro the better.
Days, even alone, can be stressful. I have family loosing their jobs. Another one is one the verge of losing her home. Each one needs to talk to mom who in turn has a need to de-stress along with everyone else.
I enjoy early mornings with my first cup of coffee before the world awakens. Ever so slowly it yawns and streatches with bird song. A soft breeze answers as it flutters through the trees. Autumn leaves twirl and dance returing to Earth Mother. Each new morning offers something never seen or felt before.
i write what I call "wake up pages" before beginning a new day. Fresh from dreeaming to the page I journey with my pen no matter what my feelings might be. The air is then clear enough for mE to find my way through another day.
These are just a few of the kindnesses I do for myself since I am important to mE.......

Getting up before the sun has risen and the world is still quiet is a great way to start the day with a bit of time for reflection, planning, creating ... "ME" time really makes other times a lot less stressful :)
