It's time for me to get writing more poetry again, so I'm participating in the November Poem-A-Day Challenge. Hope more will join me.... here is the link where you'll find the prompt each day.

http://blog.writersdigest.com/poeticasides/

Just write a rough draft each day, worry about polishing and perfecting later. Then create your own discussion group here and share your work.
Onto the Poetry...!

This is totally cool! I didn't know there was a November PAD. Don't know if I will participate or not. Thanks, Carol!

Sounds a great idea Carol, good luck!

Thanks Dan, I hope to keep up even if it's just scribbling out a poem!

This PAD also has a chapbook contest associated with it. So write with a theme in mind and you may be a winner! http://blog.writersdigest.com/poeticasides/2009/10/16/2009NovemberP...

Question for you Lin -- if you post your poems at this WD site, can you not publish them anywhere else...? I thought someone in the Muselings had told me that last April...

Good for you Carol, I'm sure you'll do well! And thanks for introducing me to the website, I'll have a look at that it looks interesting.

They may be considered published if you post them here Carol, unless you revise them considerably. Something to consider.

DAY 1
Yesterday's prompt was to write about getting into, or coming into something new. Here's my draft for that.

Adjustment

New is not a nice word
surely not a friendly word,
when it hits her all at once
blasts her out of her familiar.

New home for the pre-teen
new school for her too,
and maybe the most challenging –
a new shape and form.

It all scares her so
it seduces her too,
and she begs to go back
to her young girl ways.

Then she meets her new teacher
meets a cute boy,
and for this young woman,
the new is here to stay.

well observed.. loved it. adjustments come all the way through our life - some exciting, some quite lowering - but its all a learning experience. Isnt it wonderful how, as demonstrated above, sometimes the adjustment happens as quick as a flash and all those fears were unfounded..

DAY 2
The prompt was to write about something from a different angle or perspective. Here's my attempt...

Baseball

You think that I’d be happy
just thrilled about the game,
to be in on every single play
to be held by some big name.

But I’ll tell you how it really is
to get tossed and thrown and hit,
and probably the worst of all
to be showered by their spit.

And then again, I love the game
to hear those cheers of glee,
because despite the treatment I receive,
the game’s named after me.

Carol, what a great idea - BE the baseball! You captured it all in a few short...wonderful...lines!

Good luck on your challenge! I'll be checking in.

Thanks so much Mary! This was fun to write, although it's always a challenge to rhyme.

I've been wanting today to read your piece over in November Prompts... I'll get there soon.
