I've enjoyed the Equality section. I'm seeing that my confusion and stuckness comes from lack of balance. I read the Dalai Lama, and he's all about having more compassion for others than for ourselves. I read Julia Cameron, and she's all about having more compassion for ourselves than for others. So there has to be a balance there somewhere. I'm finally beginning to realize I need to be paying attention to Julia at this point, because in trying so hard not to cause harm to others, I actually do keep my own wheels spinning much longer than necessary ... until the rut is so deep it's a lot more difficult to get out of!

"...until the rut is so deep..."
me too

somewhere I remember reading that it is not selfish to take care of yourself - mostly because no one else really can but you.

Follow the three Rs: Respect for self, respect for others, and responsibility for all your actions.

“If you don't love yourself, you cannot love others. You will not be able to love others. If you have no compassion for yourself then you are not able of developing compassion for others.”

I love the frame. I found it at a thrift store. It is a heavy plastic. It had no glass and the back was broken. Still definitly a 'treasure' find! At first I didn't burn the paper the way Julia suggested and then I thought..well, why the heck not..and I'm glad that I did! The task mentioned handwriting the prayer but I didn't wanna.

Yes, this is GREAT, Mary! The frame of authority!

I haven't started the reading in the book yet for this passage.. but I do know this is true: Everyone must have their "basic needs" met, before they can move on to a higher level, if that means learning, sharing, improving, socially, mentally, physically, whatever. So, if you have a basic need, like knowing yourself, it must be met before you can move on... if that makes sense? I think jc is talking knowing self enough to make sure basic needs are met!

MASLOW'S THEORY OF SELF-ACTUALIZATION.

All our most basic needs must be met as we build upon the pyramind. As we put things in order we build.
