Welcome to Fast Art...

Welcome to Fast Art.

Perfectionism is one of the big creativity killers. We often start projects with great enthusiasm, then three quarters of the way in start to worry about the finishing details. This results in us spending far longer trying to perfect the project than we did creating the main part of it. That's if we ever finish at all...

Sound familiar to you?

So, the Fast Art project is to help us all become more comfortable with creating in a fast and fun way, experimenting with how we can get our ideas down quickly without spending hours on the finishing details.

Here are the guidelines for the project:

1. Pick a creative medium to work in. It's better to choose something that can be set up and got into easily like writing, doodling, collage, painting. Something where you can say GO and be creating within seconds...

2. Choose an idea or theme. You use one of the examples below, or use your own.

3. Get a timer of some kind. Set it first for 1 minute.

4. Start the timer. Create for 1 minute! No more, no less. Get your ideas around the initial theme down as best you can.

5. Do the same for 2 minutes and 5 minutes, starting with a clean sheet each time. So you end up with 3 pieces of artwork.

Then, scan or photograph your creative efforts, then post them here in the Fast Art group. Move on and do the same with another theme.

That's it!

As with all groups on CCS, here's how to start a new discussion to post your work:

Scroll down to the end of the Discussion Forum below and click on "+Start Discussion".

Title it something like: "Dan's Fast Art" and add a description of your aims for the project.

Each time you do some more fast art, return to your discussion, leave a Reply and post your new work. To add a picture, click on the little green and blue picture icon along the top of the Reply box.

Remember to visit the discussions others in the group start too, and offer your support and encouragement...
