I guess I should have joined this group awhile ago. I cannot promise to restrict myself with just black and white, however.

Hi Fiona, Do you have some doodles you could show us? I've done about 15 or so this month (January), but got side tracked (how'd I manage that???) and haven't kept the daily pace. Ah, but I've been jotting down ideas, keeping fun stuff (merchandise stickers, fruit stickers, etc.) to make some collage cards when I get back into it. I'm off to see my grandbabies (cutest little twins with blond hair and blue eyes---girly girls!). Back around Feb. 5th. Gotta get a "granny fix" first! Doodling opens up a plethora(!) of ideas! Go for it, and post some for us to enjoy...we may even trade...I'm willin' Tinker Twin

Sorry to have taken so long to get back to you. ATC's are Artist Trading Cards. They are 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches in size. The need to be made of card stock or some type firm paper. They are intended to be original, and intended to be traded, preferably in person. However, many folks are sending them by regular mail (in trade for like number) all over the world...and I think that is wonderful. If you go to a search engine (I use Google) and type in "ATC's" or Artist Trading Cards, you will come upon a wealth of information. I understand that a man in Switzerland started this idea in about 1997, then it spread to Canada, then the USA, and now, apparently, has a world-wide appeal. There are "sub-species" (my name for them) of ATC's that are done in sets of two, four, etc. There are all types of web sites where someone picks a theme, say "birds" or faeries, or whatever, then for a defined period, say for one month, people will submit entries for these themes, then they are traded all over the world I'm probably not doing a good job describing this, but you get the drift. Let me know what you think. I would be interested in trading some cards with you, after you get into it. You will LOVE it, I guarantee it! The small size makes it easy to launch a crteative idea in a half an hour or so.
Look forward to hearing back from you, Julia. Take care. TinkerTwin

Woo, I had never thought of enlarging them, what a cool creative idea! Thanks so much Tinker, you have just expanded my doodle box to try and include some more doodles, kinda macro ones-what fun!
I have to admit I don't understand ATC-I guess that is Artists trading Creations? I do know think is a group here somewhere, as I spotted people doing them on the 30 days creating.
Can you tell me briefly please, what are the standards and the main idea of them?
TinkerTwin Comment by TinkerTwin on January 11, 2009 at 1:24am
Thanks, Julia, for your nice comments. I will add some ATC's soon. I did some about a year ago. I made the ATC's out of cereal boxes, just about any box that was headed for the trash went by my cutting board first! I must have cut over 300 ATC's by recycling lightweight boxes. I went to a wallpaper store and asked the manager if I could have their out of date wallpaper books, and he took me to the rear of the store, and said, "Help yourself!" What a treasure trove of gorgeous papers---so I covered a lot of the ATC's with this pretty paper, then did zentangles, doodles, words, ephemera, etc. (glued them on top of the pretty paper) and thoroughly enjoyed this creative experience. Here's another thought...first of all, Yay! to you for being an ex-smoker...I too quit about 25 years ago. I doodle while on the phone, too. Secondly, take your doodles and enlarge them on a copier. Examine your enlarged doodles and find the most interesting shapes that are roughly 5x7 inches or say, 4x6 inches. Mark off this area. You may find several areas on the enlargement that you'll want to color or use in some fashion. Then use colored pencils, inks or paints and intuitively add colors to your enlarged doodles. You'd be absolutely amazed at what you come up with! You could even frame your creations! Send me some photos of what you do with your "phone doodles!" Tinker.
Julia Comment by Julia on January 10, 2009 at 11:17pm
Sounds the way to go Tinker. Doodling is such fun, I think I may try some at ATC size too-I guess just section off the page and go for it!
Look forward to seeing your doodles-most of mine begin to happen on the phone now I am an ex smoker, but they never get finished, just random scribbly things grin
