There seems to be a relationship between Mandalas and Zentangling!

The book, "Mandala" by Judith Cornell, Phd. has many more magnificent examples in it!

Ooooh ... there's the awesome purple/turquoise color combo again, that I love so much ... thanks for posting these, Dabs! May be time to break out the pastels and black paper ....

Awesome. I will have to check into this book, as well as some others. Carl Jung mentions mandalas as well as other sources. I have had in the back of my mind to do a personal mandala- yet I never begin because I have convinced myself that I do not know where to start.
I think these zentangles (the more zentangley ones, not my Jules-esque ones) are a good place to start- this will help me become comfortable and familiar with the sacred shapes- but wow! These above have so much luminosity!
Thanks Dabs, now I can understand why the zentangles reminded me of the mandala that I have yet to make.

Yes, Barb and Jules! Pastels or colored pencil on black Canson paper make everything look luminous, especially if the drawing is gradated!

Zentangles and mandalas do have many similarities...maybe the only difference between them is that one is usually done in circle format, the other in square?

The book is awesome. Cornell also does really wonderful electronic graphic ones too! They look like they are made of neon light! Gorgeous! Tomorrow I will scan one or two of those in for you!

Looks like Spirograph time for sure to me!! (With a little help from a purple, pink and blue marker...)

Oh wow Dabs, just been back tracking after recent discussions and found out we share this Judith Cornell book in common-Just beautiful mandalas aren't they-I used these examples in a class I was running once in my home studio-for inspiration-then I had printed out mandalas for people to color-it was just wonderful, peaceful music playing, and not a peep from anyone! Amazing how speech goes when right brain kicks in-

You wrote this nearly a year ago! Woo, so glad I am re reading old posts-still trying to find my poetry page-I lost all my bookmarks when puter crashed big time-ah well, only words-once written they can float like feathers on a gentle breeze, and maybe catch someone breathing in, like Cameron mentions, and a new creative life may be reborn-now wouldn't that be cool!

Yep, some old groups could do with a revival for sure! Hugs
