Digital Journal

5 artists, 5 digital journals, 5 weeks...

Welcome to Digital Journal

Digital Journal is a new journal swap project, but with a difference. 5 artists will begin a themed journal, but in digital form, then post the file for the next person in the swap to add a page each week.

At the end of 5 weeks, each artist will have completed a page in the digital journal of every other artist, and have their own digital journal completed...

The project starts: Saturday 16th August 2008

The theme you choose for your journal is completely up to you. Once you've chosen your theme, each of the other digital journal artists can create a page with that theme in mind and post it on your discussion page in the group.

The digital art can be of any size. Usually a jpg, gif or png file are the standards that you can upload to CCS. You can also create parts of your journal by hand, scan or photograph the results and add to the image once it's on your computer.

Update - August 16th

Just to clarify, there will be no physical exchange of journals in this project.

You can create physical journal pages if you wish, then scan or photograph the results and put on your computer to alter further digitally and then post here as an image in the group.

Or you can do your journal pages completely digitally from scratch, in a graphics program such as Photoshop or PaintShop Pro or the free PC software Paint.net.

At the end of the 5 weeks, you might want to print out each of the pages the others in the group have created for your journal, and create a physical journal from that, so it's more tangible than just the images on the screen.

Any questions, just ask - dan@coachcreative.com

How To Get Started!

Here are the journallers, and the order of the Digital Journal journey.

Barb
Julia
Lin
Sue
Virginia

So for example, Barb will start with a page for her own journal the first week, then one for Julia in week 2, Lin in week 3 and so on. Virginia will start with her own journal in week 1, then a page for Barb's in week 2, for Julia in week 3 etc.

As with all groups on CCS, here's how to start a new discussion to post your work:

Scroll down to the end of the Discussion Forum below and click on "+Start Discussion".

Title it something like: "Jack's Digital Journal - Winter Memories" ie your name and the theme of your journal, and add a description of your aims for the project.

When you've done your first piece for your journal, return to your discussion and leave a Reply. To add the picture, click on the little green and blue picture icon along the top of the Reply box.

To post your journal page for each of the other members of the group, simply visit their discussion and do the same.

Remember to visit the discussions of others in the group to offer your support and encouragement too!

Any questions, as always drop me a message: dangoodwin@coachcreative.com

Happy digital journalling!

Dan, is there a format we will all use for our digital journals? Do we make covers for it, titles, an introduction, etc.? Where will we find it?
