I just decided to start an open discussion where we can put collages that are not part of any challenge or other discussion. I want to see what we can all do :-)

I still have some work to do with this one- I am still searching for the words it needs

The background is collaged paper towles that were used for clean up in other paintings, and color test papers. (see what I mean Lin, that I can't throw anything away???) geesh

These are also posted in the watercolor collage project

Jules: That's absolutely beautiful! Does it need words? It so beautiful the way that it is !!!! I love the texture that the paper towels provide. That truly is a feast for the eyes. I keep going back to it. It makes me happy and kinda turned on too. I think the birdies love each other.

Thanks Mary. You know, maybe it doesn't need words and that is why I could not find any to use :-)

Jules:

I've been back 8 times to look at your collage. The texture in the paper speaks of a tenderness. I honestly am very moved by it. The transparency of the one flower and the comparative starkness of others, the blending backgrounds, the colors..it really speaks volumes.

Sometimes the hidden is better than to make it all clear with words. We, as viewers, can then fill in our perceptions of what the image means, becoming a more active participant and feeling more connected in the process. Just my thoughts. It was very hard for me to add PEACE stamp to my "Twiggins" bird. I'm such a visual person, usually and feel words detract. But feel I'm getting past any resistance. The stamp is a start!!!
Can't get enough of this image, Jules.
By the way, finally took the plunge and joined collage group. Couldn't bear sitting on sidelines any longer!

this is funny because one of my students used paper towels to wipe some metallic paints up... I dried them all to save for collage :-) I love the look of them.
I love your humming bird collage......

I see a future collage here! I love metallic paints in general, they give such a fantasy feel to a
piece. Hope to see some of your work and/or your student's figure collages. A friend of mine
has just started doing figures in collage and they are so intriguing. The model stands up there posing and my friend has her stack of handmade papers and she starts going to town, creating exquisite images. The world is full of possibilities if we open our eyes and hearts.

Jules! This is stunning. I just popped in here and saw this. My daughter always saves paper towels with colors on them (that she used to clean marker off of a white board, spilled Koolaid, paint, etc.). That used to drive me crazy. Now I see she is smarter than me :-)

Me again ... Jules, how did you get the daisies on there? Is any of this digital? I like how I can see the paper towel texture under the more faded daisies. (I am new to the collage world, so sorry if that was an obvious question)

No problem with the questions Maureen- I am new to the collage world
as well- so I am not exactly an authority on collage in general..but I can answer questions about what I did :-)
The hummingbirds and most vivid daisies are clipped from magazines and collaged on. Then I scanned it and copied the daisies, flipped, changed size and opacity and added the fady looking ones.

Since I decided I want this with obvious texture I am going to print the fady ones on some clear vellum type paper (I used up all my clear- I have a white translucent, but I want the clear for this). Then I can glue them onto the collage with the rest of the elments. I have not done this yet so the one you see has digitally faded flowers.

How do you glue the clear vellum, Jules. This is a problem I haven't solved yet.

Reply to This

I usually have good luck gluing the vellum with medium...it dries clear- but sometimes shows...it kind of looks foggy, but I just factor that in and expect a muted look. I usually have small pieces ATC size. It may be trickier with a large piece of vellum
