Image Swap!!!

Carol and I just did an image swap, and you can too! She admired the Stripey Man I used in a collage and I admired the lady shape she used in her collage, and a swap was born! She messaged me with her email address and I sent her mine, and we exchanged scans of the images. Now we have something new to use in our collages! It's a great way to share the Collage Love! Feel free to message people and ask for an image in exchange for one of yours. A great way to get to know fellow collage swappers better too!

As a newbie collager, I have a question for you about images ... where exactly to you get them? I have been cutting out images from magazines, but I know that there is some type of copyright issue involved ... would stock photos and clipart from the web be fair game?

Any kind of info. on this would be great ... thanks so much,

My fear of copyright violations keep me steering clear of a lot of collage work.

Lots of clipart on the Internet is free for personal use- it all depends on the site.. Most of what is in our links fits into this category. There are a lot of pictures there so take a look. We sometimes show collages that use magazine images but since these are not being offered for resale, only for informational purposes, I don't think there is a problem. If anyone were to object, we would just remove the image.

That I believe is the thing with magazine images...if they are being used for personal use and not to be sold...if the image is not the entire picture but a small percentage of the picture. If you were to sell them, then you would be stepping on toes. I lost my bookmark that discussed this as far as copyright- but I lost it. I will surf tonight and see if I can relocate it.

Lin- remember when I used the seated girl in the last soulcollage because I lost yoga lady? Well, when I was straightening my playpen after completing my swap cards I watched in surprised recognition as yoga lady was sucked into the vacuum hose...Lucky for me I have a bagless canister vac - so I was able to rescue her from that dirty fate. Now I must use her in a collage before she goes away again :-)

Wow Jules, what are the odds of rescuing her from a fate worse than death- she is surely meant to have an extra special card! I just received my Soul Collage kit that Val turned me on to and our very own Mary packed up for me with some fantastico images! I want to read the book first and then get started on this new voyage of discovery! Time for a Soul Collage group- hint, hint?

Yeah Lin...I had forgotten all about her until I saw her frantically waving for help as she was being sucked into the vortex....

I think since Soulcollage is patented we might need an actual certified facilitator to have a real group on it- but I think it is ok to share the ones we make within a discussion about them- perhaps a new thread in the collage group. Of course, I could be wrong about that. Maybe Mary knows or could find out for us?
