MORE INFO ABOUT THE TAPESTRY OF BRONZE COMPETITION

First Deadline March 31st 2008

Tapestry of Bronze is sponsoring a series of poetry contests to celebrate Greek and Roman mythology and the Olympian gods. The subject of the first contest is Zeus (also known as Jupiter), the King of the Gods.

Entries will be evaluated by the owners of the Tapestry of Bronze and additional experts at their discretion. It costs nothing to submit a poem to the contest, but each contestant may enter only once, so take time to make your poem your best!

The first prize winner in each age group ("Under 18" and "18 and Over") will receive $50. Honorable Mentions may be awarded as well, but without cash prizes. If no poem is of sufficient quality, no prizes will be awarded.

E-mail your poem (no more than 30 lines) to the following address:

tapestryofbronze@yahoo.com

Please also include your real name, and your alias if you have one. Make sure we can respond to your e-mail. If you are entering the contest for those under 18 please include your birthdate; otherwise, you can simply indicate that you're an adult!

I entered the Tapestry of Bronze poetry competition tonight at 6:52pm. The poem is called "Zeus and Io". Anyone else planning to enter any competitions?

Cool, Anne! Way to go. Know I should enter something given I started the group but I just don't have time to think about it at the mo, I've got enough on my plate with the Handless one!

Here is another poetry competition. You can win books of poetry and a bag, that's the prize.

I entered my poem "Memories of Portland" in the Powell's contest today, the day before the deadline. Wish me luck!

Definitely lots of luck, Anne! Is your poem on CCS somewhere? I'd like to read it:-)

I didn't win the contest, or get an honorable mention either. *Sigh* . You can check out the winners at the above contest site if you like.

The most important thing is that you entered, Anne:-) Pat yourself on the back for that and buy yourself a little consolation prize. Why not? We need to remember to celebrate the small achievements as well as the big ones.

Part of this competition thing, I think, is just learning to deal with the process of preparing, submitting and then getting on with our next creative act and not allowing 'not winning' to equivalate with 'failure' or to impact on our creative confidence. Its the toughest thing of all but if we are going to step outside our safe circle of friendly supporters then we have to do it. I'm still struggling with the impact this has on me each time I do it but I know that avoidance isn't the answer!

My new approach is try to think of my creations as my children: Once they've matured and I've sent them off into the world, they have to follow their own course. Maybe they'll be loved or maybe they'll be rejected; I can no longer affect the outcome but I'll always be glad to see them if they return home!

Thanks WC. That is a good approach to our creations. Maybe that would make a good discussion topic: How to deal with rejections.

Yes, good idea, Anne, I'll put it up now:-)
