I came across this quote I'd written in an old journal:

"Our only job is to see past our own limitations so that we can return to that which we already are..."

I don't know the author but I do know it resonated deeply with me then, and it does even more so now.

I strongly believe that we all know, deep inside, exactly what our greatest talents are, what makes us happy, what brings us meaning, what makes us feel most alive.

It's an inscription on our very core that we could never remove if we wanted to. But we can, and unfortunately we do, ignore this inscription.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you believe we're all learning brand new things as we go through life, or really we're just coming back home to the real, true self that's been waiting patiently inside all along?

What makes YOU feel happy, alive, at peace? What moments have you had where you've felt "this is what life is about, this is the real, authentic me..."?

What stops you getting in touch with this core part of you more often?

I have discovered this wonderful discussion a bit late, I am afraid.

I feel that when I try hardest to achieve what I cherish most, then this eludes me, it slips through my fingers. If I relax and let knowledge flow through me from inside as well as outside, in the shape of a dream, a bizarre thought, a glance or a chat or else, then it comes a moment when I feel perfectly attuned to my inner core and from that I can perform magic inside out!
Unfortunately I am not always so receptive. Maybe receptiveness is something that can be cultivated and exercised?

I agree, for me I have moments where words flow so easily, and I know they're coming, like a river that's been backed up, now set free to flow once more. I'm not sure we can predict or control when this kind of creative flood comes, but I know the only chance we have to experience is by keeping showing to create, ready to receive. We won't create amazing art every time we try, but the more often we show up, the greater the likelihood and the more content and confident we become.

I've only just discovered this post as well. It is wonderful. I feel my journey with my mental illness is all about healing and becoming more of who I really am. My art and creating is helping me to do that as are all my relationships with people and life. I love the quote Dan. You are inspiring as always.

We all seem to get so lost along the way... But I believe creating what we're drawn to create, what we love to create, what we NEED to create, is a wonderful way to get back on the pathway home, and to REdiscover the amazing person waiting inside...
