Does anyone have any experience working as a resident artist? The sort of thing I do involves being outside in beautiful natural places and I am not sure studio or gallery work is the thing to do. I feel that gallery exhibitions can sometimes take away the essence of ephemeral land art. I don't know anyone in the artistic industry. I am a bit of a one man band and haven't gained any of these contacts yet. So I am interested in anyones personal experience. Should I just write to as many people as I can? Send emails to galleries, curators, sculpture parks, local councils maybe? What have any of you done?

I haven't done anything like this, Richard. I think you're on the right track, checking things out online and such. I found this link just within a few minutes, and there are brochures and .pdf documents for artists to download and submit ...

Richard, I think you're on the right track with your blog, Flickr pages, and joining groups like CCS to network with others. Also, when your book comes out, there are opportunities for exposure that accompany the PR process, such as book signings, blog tours(sign me up!), interviews, and ratings on Amazon. Get those PR materials ready now, with photos of your work and web page addy, so people can attach a name to the images. There are sites and groups to give great assistance and advice on PR, as well as sites that sell images for artists, so keep your eyes open for info that fits your needs.
I'll pass along any info I find,

Hi DJ. My book will be self-published but I want to get hold of something real and tangible so I can start seeking a proper publishing deal, and hopefully sell a few along the way (me and my mum at least ;-)). Trouble with being a one-man band is finding enough time in the day and energy too! If only I could ditch my job I would! Spread a bit thin at the mo' not able to get much done on here as I'd like. One step at a time. It is the only way! But at least I am getting the sculptures done after all that is what it is all about, the rest is peripheral fluff.

Cheers for the support.
Richard

Richard, You forgot your partner - I'm sure she'll want one. So that's three. :-) She can view the photos, and reminisce about standing on that freezing riverbank...
Put me on the list for the purchase of your book. That's four...(Your mother, your partner, and I will spread the word. :-)
But seriously, when you do get your work out there, I think you're going to take off with great velocity and popularity. ..........Best wishes, DJ
