Ok, enough spoofs already! Take a look around at different times of the day for any interesting shadows. Take at least 2 different photos of a shadow(s). Then please post & share with everyone! :)

nancy thanks for all your great prompts. I'm enjoying them. I only have a film camera so can't share my photos until they are developed.

Challenge taken up Nancy...This first one is at Sovereign Hill, a historical park here that has been built around the strong theme of the gold rush and the gold fields in the 1800's...

The Old School House

Just for a little contrast, I'll give you the full colour version of the above black and white...

How do you feel about the ambience of the images? Changes doesn't it when seen in colour, but in many ways I like the B/W better, a bit more nostalgic perhaps, softer, more romantic :-)

Definitely prefer the B/W here Julia. Like you say it's nostalgic, romantic, makes the date/era seem more ambiguous. It makes me think of my poetry and I have certain unwritten rules about that, so to keep it timeless. I never use words that can be dated to a specific time, instead using timeless and more ambiguous and more organic phrases. It's like somehow writing with the same B/W nostalgia as in photos, but with full colour in terms of sensory impact. If that makes sense!

I like the black and white ones, and I like the spiky halo effect on the first two. The red sky is great!

Thanks Barb...yes I think Shadows beg to be noticed in black and white...looking for a wide coverage in tonal qualities, ambience and compositional skills isn't always easy to achieve!

Sometimes the contrast on a bright sunny day can be too strong, but then of course early morning or long evening shadows seem to work most effectively...

Unless it is overcast, and atmospheric with sky theatre, the hours between 10 am and 4pm are sort of the same as the rule of hours spent in the sun, baking ourselves to a tan LOL- shadows yearn for mornings and evenings where I live in Oz any way :-)

I also prefer the black and white format with shadows...they seem to take on more life and mystery. Love this little park scene

I agree, the black & white gives it a very nostalgic feel. These are great shots! You should be proud...:)

Wow, the top photo is so dream like, I love it of course! Interesting heads on the reedy looking grasses....

Shadows, I think I love them most for the created negative space, like your 2nd shot....I must be aware of interesting shadows when we are on holiday next week...I think it is my turn to do a page for you Barb...I'll post it early as I am running out of time this week, getting things teed up to fly away on Monday! WooHoo....

The shadows are from sunflowers, and the pointy heads are garlic about to flower :) This is the second year they have been in the ground, didn't get any flowers last year. We'll dig them up soon and see what we find!

Take lots of photos on your trip!
